Before booking a move, I made sure I looked at the reviews and of course just like any company there was some bad ones but I made sure to call each and see where I felt more comfortable and very well treated. I finally got to this one and I was blown away with the service they provide, I immediately decided to go head and book and let me tell you it was the best decision. Please do not make the mistake we did and use Honest and True. They damaged our TV and a picture and refuse to make it right. Dan Ross came to our home to give us an estimate and sold us a bill of goods about them being a religious company and standing behind their work. There was never an offer of additional insurance to protect our things. Instead we were given .60 per pound for the picture and refusal to replace the TV. On the day of our move 2 men and 2 high school kids came to move our things. They packed up all our wall art, pictures, mirrors and tvs. We had planned to move our big tv ourselves as we were concerned with it getting damaged. The movers assured us that it would arrive undamaged, that they would package it with extreme care. They were after all professionals and did this all time. Once the movers left and the cable company came to install our service it was then that we noticed the damage to our tv. The back had been partially separated and there were large areas where the "black coating" had been rubbed off. Over the past 3 weeks I have tried to work with Sherri Doucette who handles their claims. To say that she was rude and dismissive is a huge understatement. She initially tried to blame us and say we had to take responsibility for packing items until she learned her crew packed it. Now the response is if the damage was there from the movers we would have noticed it right away. They have an answer for everything. On top of the damage to our items the kids on the crew were extremely unprofessional. They wanted to stop for lunch between the houses, which we thought odd but agreed to. The owners kid brother took a break by sitting on our kitchen counters in our brand new home. They put their drinks on our wood dining table, leaned all over the leather chairs and traipsed with dirty shoes all over our area rug. Honest and True is the furthest thing that this company is. This was a really disappointing move. They were supposed to come at 9 am on Wednesday. I had booked my travel plans accordingly. They then told me guaranteed they would be there on Thursday at 9 am. I called the day before to verify and they disconnected me once, I called back again and they said they would call back - never did, I called back again and they said they would call back - never did. Then, I called at night to a full voicemail. I got a call around 10 pm my time with the driver telling me he would "probably be there around 5 or 6 pm the next day". First time is on both of us, second time is on them, third time would have been on me and I ultimately decided to fire them. Moving is stressful enough and I personally felt that this crew did not keep me informed throughout the process and, ultimately, did not hold true to their word. I have the whole process documented for verification.

Affordable Transfer Co always moves the people who work at my company. Our jobs require us to move quite frequently. I understood why my company hires them as I saw them at work. The men arrived right on time and got to work. They packed everything so creatively and then carried out all my furniture with ease. My heart was in my throat when they were carrying my grandmother’s old wardrobe that is so precious to me. But they didn’t cause any damage to them. Even if you're staying in the same state, you may still technically be planning a long-distance move - though the exact mileage varies by moving company, these are typically moves that are more than 50 to 100 miles long or across state or country lines. In fact, even if you're moving within the same state but you have to go through another state or country first, it's likely considered an interstate move, rather than a local one. That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.

The FMCSA can also tell you if any complaints have been filed against a particular moving company.
Check with the American Moving and Storage Association
For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.

Moving companies can better keep your belongings safe when the movers plan ahead. What does this mean? Many companies take extra time to measure doorways, halls and stairways to find the safest route in and out of your home. They should also provide furniture blankets, covers and moving pads to keep both your home and your belongings free of scratches or other damage.

If you're moving on a snowy, icy or rainy day, keeping all of your paths, stairways and walkways clear and dry is crucial. One type of tip to avoid: alcohol. It's usually illegal for movers to have bottles of alcohol in the truck or van, so tipping a bottle of wine or liquor could get them into trouble.
