The PEER Center is a nonprofit advocacy and support agency for individuals with mental disabilities. The center is one of the largest, independent, consumer-run mental health programs in the United States. It supports schizophrenics, alcoholics, narcotics, as well as anger management, depression, dual diagnosis and women's groups. The center operates a drop-in center that conducts several social activities, including pool, chess, card and bingo games and movie shows. The PEER Center organizes various training and arts and crafts classes. The center is funded by grants from the Florida Department of Children and Families and the government of Broward County, Fla. In addition, the center offers several volunteer services. It maintains a location in Oakland Park, Fla.
