Barry was contracted to rebuild 3 small Hynautics steering pumps, specifically with the check valves included. He quoted $185 each, I prepaid him $600 and sent him the pumps. Months later, after much complaining on the phone, I received my pumps back. The hydraulic ports had no covers on them, and he didnt even bother to clean the aluminum chips and dirt of the pumps, consequently contaminating the allegedly rebuilt pumps. The pumps appeared not to have been touched, and returned them without touching the check valves, which he said would cost another $600 if I wanted them done (in complete disregard for verbal the written agreement when he cashed my check). I contacted a factory rep, who said the going rate was only $145 INCLUDING check valves. As the pumps upon simple sight were contaminated, I sent them out once again for rebuild, and it was discovered that the same old oil was inside, with aluminum shavings, and the original seals were not replaced. Not only was the job a fraud, I had to put up with HIS foul mouth and yelling over the phone, lest I chance losing my boat's steering pumps. I would not have anything done by Barry. I have copies of all correspondence to back this up; I am not some simple disgruntled customer.
