Vulcan, headquartered in Foley, Ala., is a multi-division company that manufactures and fabricates aluminum coiled sheet, aluminum sign blanks, finished traffic control signs, utility industry signs, lawn mowers and clock dial faces. The company was founded in 1935 as a small sign manufacturer in Birmingham, Alabama. It moved to Foley in 1968 and has grown to include 7 divisions located on a 30-acre campus in Foley's Industrial Park. Vulcan Signs, a division of Vulcan, was constructed in 1977 for the purpose of producing highway signs, faces and decals for the governmental market. In 1996, the production area was expanded from 28,000 square feet to 57,400 square feet. Vulcan Signs manufactures traffic control signs and sells to governmental and commercial accounts in every state and a number of foreign countries. Vulcan s wholly owned subsidiary, Southland Mower Corporation, is located in Selma, Ala.
