When a car is damaged by an accident or weather, what can be repaired and what must be replaced? Or is it time to buy a new car?
No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.
All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
The manager at the Midas Homewood location contacted me on February 27th, 2015 and I explained my experience with the Hoover location (left a review on them). He didn't like the fact that that and theft had happened in one of his stores. He offered to have my vehicle inspected for my peace of mind. I came by and had my vehicle inspected on February 28, 2015. He looked under the hood, since Midas Hoover also replaced my radiator, and he checked the outer tie rod end. He found what would soon be the same situation before with the suspension (where I'd have to find a shop and shell out even more money) and replaced the parts and aligned my vehicle, all as a courtesy. I'm truly appreciative for that. The Midas Homewood manager, Dwight, refunded me for the outer tie rod end job Midas Hoover did. For their service and right-ing what could and would have been another wrongdoing, Midas Homewood gets my mark of approval.UPDATE: These guys have taken care of my car and been great to work with. I came back to Midas Homewood after getting an oil change and tire rotation from the dealership, that resulted in a Check Engine Light. Midas took care of my CEL problem (a simple fix that would've been an unnecessary repair) without charging me a penny in good consciousness. I recently got a tuneup and brought it back when my CEL came on. They kept it for a couple of days to check it out and drained and recharged the battery and reset the codes, as a courtesy. They changed out my sparkplug wires and informed me about the exhaust system. They took care of my car and I've appreciated what they've done. They've saved me money and did honest repair work on my CRV. Customer service is great and it's clear they take pride in their business and making the customer top priority. As far as I've known and going off their track record, these mechanics have been honest with me and they know how I am about my baby. So I highly recommend them.
EASIER THAN ORDERING A PIZZA! After 3 days of haggling with my local delearship in Montgomery, I was unable to make the deal work. I called Serra Mazda, asked for the sales manager and I was immediatly connected with Paul. I spoke with him about the exact same vehicle I wanted to have the local dealership pick up and bring to me (88 miles). I told Paul that I had already driven the car model, pre-qualified, and was serious about getting the car that day. This was at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday 11/13/12. After a 30 minute phone call ( I had to take a call on other line for 12 minutes, Paul DID NOT hang up)Paul gave me a price that I was happy with and turned me over to Tony B. for finance questions. Still over the phone, Tony B. was able to beat our financing by 2.5%. My husband and I left Montgomery, AL. at 4:45 p.m. We got to SERRA MAZDA at 6:30 p.m. Paul and Tony B. had everything ready for us. The paper work was filled out ready to go and all we had to do was sign. All numbers were as we discussed and they gave me great amount on my trade. We were in the dealership less than 45 minutes and walking out with our new keys. The car had been detailed and filled up prior to us coming. Tony B. gave us the required walk around and information before we left the lot.Real talk, we were back home in Montgomery (88miles each way) before 10:00 p.m. I truly wanted to sleep in my brand new Mazda CX-9 that night.. The car is wonderful, however the experience at this dealership was above and beyond anything I could have expected. I felt so comfortable with Paul and Tony B. This comfort level was established within a 6-hr transaction. Only one of which was actual face to face. I feel like I should have invited them to Thanksgiving Dinner!
First I want to say that I was pleased with my sales lady Barbara Cook. She was wonderful! My first problem occurred after I signed my papers and they gave me my key.. Only ONE key...wasn't told ahead of time and they wouldn't get another for me so I had to buy one for almost 300.00. After I had been driving my SUV a few weeks the molding on one side of my windshield came undone, after several trips to get it fixed(and it takes me 11/2 hrs round trip) they decided to have a glass person do it. They used Starnes Glass. I noticed a day later that there were dents in my hood right by the windshield, I called my service writer and discussed the problem with her, sent pics and ended up making another trip back to show them. Starnes took no responsibility for the damage and the service manager Chad Wilson said they would not cover it that I should have notified them sooner! And a windshield wouldn't have made those type of dents!I informed them as soon as I saw it!!! Any one with an ounce of common sense can see that dents right by my windshield would come from that! They informed me the windshield was taken out and new molding put in. A few days later the molding came undone on the other side of the windshield!!! I again called and talked with my service writer about getting it fixed and said no way to Starnes Glass doing it again !!! I was informed he had to correct his problem! Told her unacceptable and have sent numerous emails and left messages and no one has called me back in weeks!!!! So I just said forget this drama. Payed for the dents to be removed and had another glass repair person to fix it!
***SEE UPDATE BELOW***I bought an 04 Ford Expedition from Adamson Ford. First, they failed to do all repairs promised me before I purchased the vehicle. Also,I was treated rudely by management, based on information relayed to me from my salesman, when I attempted to back out of the sale because I wanted to wait until I could afford a later model with fewer miles.UPDATE: I was proven totally wrong about Adamson Ford, after speaking directly with a member of management. Mr. Robert Howard personally apologized to me for the way I was initially treated at the dealership. He even made a couple of good will gestures as a demonstration of his sincerity and assured me that the repairs I was promised would be done at no cost to me. Not everyone can admit when they're wrong and I believe Mr. Howard showed a lot of class by doing so. As a leader of the Sales Team at Adamson Ford, I believe he represents this company's unwavering commitment to Customer Service. I was immensely pleased by the manner in which my situation was resolved and I look forward to being an Adamson Ford customer for years to come.I highly recommend Adamson Ford to anyone in the market for a new or preowned vehicle.
In a day and age when mediocrity is the norm for businesses, it's refreshing to encounter an operation that's dedicated to quality work and complete customer satisfaction. Such is the case with Sherrill Paint and Body Co. I took my wife's 2 year old Beemer to this shop when a fallen tree damaged it during Katrina. At the time, the company's owner was a man named Rahj. They did a great job in restoring the car to it's original state. Unfortunately, after a number of years, the clear coat started to peel on the roof and the hood faded. I brought the car back recently for an assessment. It was then that I met the new owner, Tad Lidikay. After assessing the repaired areas and reviewing the documentation I provided, Tad had no hesitation in stating that "they would make it right". And he did. He re-prepped and re-painted the entire roof and hood on the car at no charge. My wife and I are delighted with the beautiful job they did. Obviously, Tad is committed to building a highly satisfied customer base, one customer at a time. Needless to say, he's got my business.
These guys went and got the truck for me, did marvelous work esp. matching the existing black paint.. They had it ready to roll when they said they would & Wally was someone I'll do business with in the future. They did a fantastic job and got it done much faster than I anticipated and the bill was my deductible plus a door handle that I carried off, which he sold to me at cost after painting it. They do great work and I give them 6 stars & they'll for sure be hearing from me again if I get in an accident. Thank you 280 Paint & Body.. Easiest experience I've EVER had with a body shop and you did what you said you would when you said you would and that goes a long way with me being in the service business myself.. A+++++++ Awesome Job!! Couldn't be happier!!!
My daughter had her Infiniti towed to Crown Infiniti in Hoover to get a new altenator put in. These Bast#$@'s tried to charge her $813 plus $108 for the diagnostic check...I called 3 other dealers and they were all 35% less. Luckily I remembered JD at Auto & Truck Doctor on Lorna Rd...he did work for me 7-9 years ago. With one call he went and picked up the car, paid the Crown overpriced diagnostic fee, ordered the part and had the car ready for my daughter by noon the next day...at half the price!!! THAT"S WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT!!!!! Service, Service & Service at a fair price! Guess who's number is in my and my daughter's cell phone now??? Guess who I will bypass the next time...CROWN INFINITI of Hoover, Al.
I had to have my car towed in because unfortunately the gas stations gas delivery driver mixed diesel in the premium tank and put the premium in the diesel tank. As soon as I started driving it all hell broke loose with me car. The car got towed into mr transmission Monday morning they started checking it for me then had to flush out the bad gas, clean out the system and change the spark plugs and fuel filter. My car is a performance car so I was worried the diesel would mess it up but mr transmission made sure everything was fixed and running right! Got my car back and it's driving perfect! Thanks mr. Transmission!
After a bit of a rough start with Mr. Cox I found him to be a very hardworking business person. He came out to my house and a time of my choosing (rainy/snowy & cold) to detail the inside of a used car I recently purchased. The inside of this car was dismal to say the least. Within a couple of hours he had the inside looking 110% better than it was. In fact he cleaned it way better than I expected and at a very reasonable price (about the same that other places charge but he came to my house) I would definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to bet their car cleaned.
This young man came to my house and detailed mine and my husbands truck and it was AWESOME! Mr. Tommy was polite and on time to do the work, he spent over four and a half hours to detail my truck. The wax job that he did made my truck feel like glass and look like it came off the showroom floor. IT IS GREAT!!!! This is the most professional company that I have done business with in a long time. I would and will recommend him to EVERYONE! Right after I get him to come back this week and detail my vintage car. Worth every penny that I spent!!!!
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
