Overall

I've only been in the fish keeping hobby for a couple of years, so I'm always on the look out for that one special place to go for my supplies. I heard about Jim Straughn's from a friend also in the hobby and decided I'd take the 45min drive to check it out after work. When I pulled into the lot, I was surprised to see the small building and thought they couldnt have too much inside. To my surprise, they filled it well. Anything I could've thought of as my usual supplies and chemicals were available in plenty and I even picked up a few things I had either not seen elsewhere or they were significantly cheaper. The fish selection was what surprised me most. Not just the variety, but the quality too. I've always been discouraged by the lack thereof at all those big chain stores. All the fish looked active and healthy. I happened to be there for feeding time too which was fun to watch. Looking around, I saw a variety of supplies and kits which any serious hobbyist would appreciate but also a nice selection of kid friendly decorations and all you need startup packages. Although my daughter just pointed at the fish and smiled, when she's old enough to appreciate the hobby, I'll be getting her started there. I will definitely be back for myself in the meantime!

Overall

We went in to check it out due to it being a five star. Woman working was very very very nice. We walked right to the back in hopes to buy some cichlids. First we saw in one tank two dead fish. Looked at two others and saw more. We walked up front and was greeted by a beautiful husky. We saw a tank that looked very well taken care of filled with cichlids. We decided to buy two of them, but as the woman was getting ready to scoop the fish oit, we saw two more dead fish. We decided against it as we have a newer tank. The place is very tiny and not well taken care of. I do not recommend going there.

Surprised

To be honest I am not a fish person, but my boyfriend is all about his pond and the fish inside. So when I found out that I was going to have to spend my Saturday going to different fish stores you could imagine I wasn't the happiest person.

We were told about this store from a friend and decided it would be the first store we would go to. Let me tell you how happy I was that we went there first. They had everything!! And their employees were so nice and very helpful. To tell you the truth the employees and especially the owner were so helpful my boyfriend and I walked out of there in great moods. And the best part was it was the only store we had to go to!!

If all the fish stores my boyfriend drags me to were like this one I think he would have gotten me interested in this kind of stuff a long time ago. (but i am not going to tell him that)

THE PLACE TO GO

IF YOUR INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT HOW TO SETUP OR TAKE OF YOUR AQUARIUM THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE. YOU WILL NOT MEET NICER PEOPLE. THE OWNER AND EMPLOYEES ARE SO FRIENDLY.

THE STORE IS VERY ORGANIZED. JIM STRAUGHN IS DEFIANTLY "THE FISHMAN." IF THERE IS SOMETHING YOU WANT THAT THEY DO NOT CARRY YOU CAN COUNT ON THEM TO GET FOR YOU.

IF YOU HAVE POND IN YOUR HOME OR YOU WANT ONE...THEY WILL INSTALL AND MAINTAIN AS WELL.

GREAT PLACE AND GREAT PEOPLE...YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
