I thought I may have a problem with my furnace turning on and off again later to find out I had an issue with the inside of my home.
I have a premium account with NJR. It took them a week to get to me. The tech spent less then 5 min looking at the furnace only to tell me I needed a brand new furnace because my heat exchanger was damaged and he would have a sales rep call me. The Tech never asked if my heat exchanger was under a WTY, which it is, but more importantly the Tech simply looked at my furnace. I've come to find out the only way to determine if there is a problem with the heat exchanger is to either take the unit apart or at the very least take off the burner and use a scope to see into the chambers.
This, I now understand, is a common method to drive up sales of furnances. There is nothing wrong with my furnance. When I called NJR to complain I was met with an unruly customer rep that heard my complaint and said "Yea, I understand" then as I told him that this part was also under WTY with the MFR, he said "ok, but it's $275 an hour to repair and we est. 4 hours to do the job"
This is a scam and I'm cancelling my service contract and looking into what avenues I have to retrieve my monthly payments that I've been paying for years.
This company is reliable and efficient under emergency circumstances. My initial estimate for repair was 4 days away, however NJR arrived within hours same day and completed repair in minutes, restoring heat to a residence with an elderly disabled person. I would recommend this company's service plan as a good value. Their prices are highly competitive and workmanship is unquestionable good.
NJR home services is a SCAM and commits FRAUD. Stay away. They collect a monthy fee from you but when you need service they send techs out to "fix" your issue. They will make you stay home from 8a-4p and give no realistic time windows. They carry no parts and do not perform repairs on site. Everytime a part is needed, they have to order it and come out AGAIN. We had a furnace which is also our hot water, "repaired by NJR" 6 times and our furnace won't light AGAIN, it' 50 degrees in our house and we can't take hot showers. They come out and "bang on valves" to get out furnace to light, NO documentation of work is provided and they leave. Issue comes up again and again. If this happened to you, file a complaint with BBB and the attorney general. STOP THESE SCAMMERS.
Terrible service. Or lack of it. I had a premium contract for all my appliances. Heat. Water heater and air. My furnice wouldn't work and I called for service. Finally had someone come out a week later to let me know I need a new furnace.
I said fine. They told me a sales rep would contact me to price for a new one. 3 days nobody called. Meanwhile Im without heat for over a week. Thankfully the weather had been mild. I'd be screwed if this happened during winter. Finally I called and asked what's going on. I was told by a rather nasty customer service rep that the sales guy is out on appointments and I need to wait. Which is pretty ridiculous to say to someone who's is relying on this company to get heat. I said I'm going to cancel my service contract since im not getting any benefits out of being a premium contract holder. To which she rudely obliged. I was able to contact the sales rep who told me he was with a customer and will get back to me. So I still haven't heard from anyone. DO NOT USE. THEY OBVIOUSLY DON'T NEED YOUR BUSINESS. OR DON'T HAVE ENOUGH STAFF. If the company can't show interest in selling you expencive equipment they surely won't show up to fix anything for free. Awful service and rude employees.
