I started up a checking account through a promotion that would get me $200 for free if I set up direct deposit. Anyway, Keybank accidentally closed my account and my direct deposits got bounced back to my company. The person I talked to there assured me she took care of it and would get me my $200. It never happened, my account went dormant and after a few months of inactivity, I got a service charge for $36 which went to a debt collection agency harming my credit score. I fought it, but from the local branch to the 800 number, they gave me the "it's out of my control" song and dance routine. KeyBank owed me $200, but instead, I ended up paying them $36. What a scam.
