Pioneers' Homes of Fairbanks, governed by the Alaska s Department of Health & Social Services through Alaska Longevity Programs, is a residential community for seniors aged 65 and above. It is one of the six facilities established in 1967. The community features flower, herb and vegetable gardens maintained by the residents. It offers assisted living to more than 100 residents that include over 10-bed special care neighborhood called Homestead. Staff at Homestead is specially trained to care for residents suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The Fairbanks Pioneers' Home has a large aviary in one of the hallway solariums. It is supported in part by an active foundation made up of members of the business community, family members and friends of the community. Pioneers' Homes is located in Fairbanks, Alaska, and is spread over an area of more than 10 acres.
