In 1949, Robert Gilmour began Gilmour Manufacturing Company, which would become a part of the Gilmour Group, and introduced the first pistol grip nozzle. Other Gilmour firsts include the original clamshell-style hose repair, adjustable Pattern Master sprinklers, Select-A-Spray nozzles, no-premix sprayers and rotor sprinklers with multijet nozzles. Gilmour develops and manufactures four lines of American-made lawn and garden products. The company has more than 300 years of combined history in the lawn and garden industry. Each original business that makes up the company was brought under the leadership of Vermont American Corporation in a series of acquisitions during the 1980s. Headquartered in Somerset, Pa., home of the original Gilmour plant, Gilmour Group also manufactures products in Excelsior Springs, Mo.
