I couldn't find a plumbing part for my shower at the local big-box home supply and was referred here. I didn't mind not being greeted, but the person behind the counter provided the most unfriendly customer service I have ever encountered in my life. It was clear he didn't want to help me in the least, didn't look at me, or ever crack a smile. I left swearing I'd never do business there and would rather stand out naked in the rain (in the winter) and take a shower that way than ever give them my business or a penny of my money. After reading the other reviews here I can see that I am not the only person with a negative impression of this unfriendly place. If it's going to kill you to be friendly and try to help people - why be in business in the first place?????
I am sorry you had a bad experience at The Plumbing Works. I wished you would have come to me directly to inform me of your experience. We are a small shop and can only have one employee helping customers, answering the phones and dispatching our plumbers. Our regular customers understand that but sometimes new customers don't. Again I am sorry for your bad experience with us.

The Plumbing Works and La-Z-Drains are under the same ownership: Doug Schirmer. Their service is horrible and the conduct equally rude and unprofessional. The owner himself, Doug Schirmer, and an assistant unclogged a toilet drain in my garage. In the process they sprayed fecal material all over the wall, floor and several personal items I had in there. I was upset that they didn't have the decency to clean it up before they left, or have the common sense, respect or professionalism to either cover my personal property with a simple plastic drop-cloth or move it well out of the way to protect it. When I called to request they return to clean up the mess they made, he told me they had done the best they could -left material still wet, no signs of cleaning or smearing where they even attempted to clean. The owner Doug told me he had no intention of returning and that it was my fault my things were in the way and was angered he had to move them at all- when he could have easily asked me to do so, as I was in the house at the time. I am disgusted by his audacity and level of unprofessional-ism. He was surly, rude and combative with no respect for me or my personal property. It is truly amazing that someone would treat a paying customer in this manner and expect to stay in business. What kind of adult behaves that way? let alone a ""professional"" in the Service Industry? AVOID LA-Z-DRAINS AND THE PLUMBING WORKS! If you have/had a similar experience, file with the BBB and State Construction Contractors Board- License #169413. He already has complaint records on file with both agencies!
*** And, in response to my wholly accurate and truthful negative customer review, the owner Doug posted my personal, unlisted private cell phone number on the internet and encouraged people to harass me.
Although the business was handed over to new management around 2007 or 2008, the guy who now "owns" it was *already involved* in the company when they did faulty work (especailly at my home in 2006!). Who knows, maybe he's the one who installed the plumbing carelessly. But even IF this new owner had nothing to do with TPW previously, he is STILL responsible. When you buy into a company, you also buy into the previous history, etc. The new owner is unhelpful and was not only disrespectful of what happened to us (wound up costing us several thousand$), but he was equally disrespectful to our contractor. He has photos of the wall and floor damage caused by this company and he tried to present that to TPW and discuss why they should make good with their customers...but TPW was rude to him as well. I'm shocked that this company is still in business considering the number of nods I get when I mention my experience with others. Almost everyone I talk to had already known not to use them. Interesting!
AS IT SAYS IN THE REVIEW, THE WORK WAS DONE BEFORE I HAD BOUGHT OR WAS IN ANY WAY PART OF THE PLUMBING WORKS. I GAVE THIS PERSON THE INFORMATION ON HOW TO REACH THE PREVIOUS OWNER. ALSO, THE WORK DONE WAS WELL BEYOND ANY WARRANTY BY ME, THE PAST OWNER AND INDUSTRY STANDARDS. I AM SORRY FOR YOUR INCONVENIENCE BUT OUR OR ANYBODY'S WORK IN NOT WARRANTED FOR EVER. AND, I REALIZE THAT NOT GETTING THE RESPONSE YOU HOPED FOR LEAVES YOU DISGRUNTLED, BUT SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE PLUMBING WORKS WE HAVE PROVIDED QUALITY SERVICE AND HAVE MANY REPEAT CUSTOMERS THAT WOULD NOT CALL ANYBODY ELSE.
