Drive-In Is Cool But The Food Is Barely Mediocre

Sonic is cool mainly because of the "old fashioned" drive-in experience. The carhops may wear skates in the summer but today everyone was driving thru and not in need of their services.

This was my third trip to the Brownstown Sonic. The first was in the madness of their grand opening so I wouldn't characterize that as indicative of what eating here is really like.

The 2nd was a few weeks ago and I was less than impressed.

The 3rd was today. I ordered a hamburger with specific items on it (I guess you are supposed to be able to do that?) but it arrived with whatever they felt I needed and not what I wanted. And it was cold by the time I was 1/2 mile up the road. My chocolate shake was not chocolatey in a way other than the artificial chocolate taste that far too many ice cream joints have taken to producing. On a whim I ordered the jalapeno poppers. Small amount of pepper surrounded by some scalding hot cheese goop. Not bad.

As with visit #2 my wait was fairly long.

The burger, shake and poppers were almost $9. Expensive.

There is nothing overtly wrong with Sonic. I just dont think that its worth my time and money for mediocre food.

Arrive with the expectation of a neat drive-in experience and not with one of great food and you will leave a lot happier.
