If I could have given this office of Budget Rent A Car zero stars, I certainly would have. My husband rented a car on-line, and prepaid so that when we got off Amtrak (after a 48 hour trip across the country) we would be able to pick up our rental right at the station. The Budget office was right at the station but the woman at the office refused to rent us the prepaid and reserved rental car, on the grounds that our credit card is a debit/credit car rather than only a credit card. Apparently if we had been at an airport there would have been no problem (we have rented multiple cars with the same debit/credit card at airports). If Budget has this policy, that is its right, but not to make a promise and then break it, leaving us high and dry. The woman at the office had a customer service attitude bordering on hostile (telling me "I can see you are upset"--as though she had nothing to do with my mood--refusing to look at us, and refusing to even check with other rental companies, though she did admit to me that this happens to about 80% of the people who have prepaid with debit cards). As it turned out another rental company made calls and National in Berkeley rented to us. So our planned vacation driving down the coast, leaving on Amtrak from Los Angeles, was not ruined.
