We decided to try them on their second day open, expecting a disappointing result, but far too impatient to let everyone else try them before we did. Boy, were we wrong… We were seated as we entered about 11:35 for lunch, surprising since the parking lot was already beginning to fill, and they’d been on the news that same morning. Cameron took our order, and brought our drinks out promptly. We asked the same thing we usually ask when we try any new burger, “What size are the patties on the burgers?” to which he promptly replied, “two 4 ounce patties.” Most new staff members are unaware when asked such a specific question… Kudos to you Cameron. We ordered the Bacon Cheese Burger and the Carnita Fajitas, but were disappointed that they could not ½ the burger for us before bringing it out. In trying a new restaurant, we like to share two items to get a better feel for the place. When the food arrived, we realized why they would hesitate to cut the burger. It was beautiful, a work of art in a true bacon-lover’s eyes (my license plates are “BACON1” by the way). We cut it ourselves, and were instantly impressed with how perfectly cooked the patties were, and the aroma of real smoke coming off of the bacon (at least 4 pieces of heavenly bliss, folded over and stacked above and between the patties. The taste was sublime and I instantly forgot that I was in a new restaurant, but the real surprise was the French Fries. They were light and crispy, with a subtle seasoning, and inside, the potato was fluffy and hot. They remained crisp, even as they cooled. I think they are the best fries I’ve had in El Paso. We then portioned out the carnita fajitas, where the shredded meat sat atop grilled onions and peppers. It was served on an iron skillet, not unlike the local expectation for fajitas, but I was pleased to get the taste of ample black pepper in the meat, which set it apart from the traditional Mexican fare to which I’m accustomed. It came with a side plate of guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and shredded cheese, and three flour tortillas. At first, I disliked the thick tortillas, but the taste was good and they held up well to being filled with a huge helping of meat and toppings. After we used the first three, Cameron brought us another three to finish off the carnitas we had remaining. We easily made five ample tacos from our plate, and we used the final tortilla to clean the skillet. While it was somewhat different, it was a welcome change and we both really enjoyed the dish. Our total bill (pre well deserved tip) was $24.35, $9.50 for the Bacon Cheese Burger and fries, $11 for the fajitas, and $2 for tea. We both had enough and rolled out to go back to work and sleep it off. I’ll be there again, and often.

Best Arrachera Steak in El Paso!! You've got to try their Arrachera Steak next time you go and visit EL PASO, It Was Autantica!!! My Friends & I visited El Paso for 2 weeks & after we found Chihuas we made it our spot every day for GREAT food & service!
I am here in El Paso on business and stopped at Andale. It was very good, service was fast and efficient. The Owner suggested the Cancun Chicken Salad, a grilled chicken salad with a Mexican flair. It was served with a complimentary cup of soup. Both were very good. I plan to stop there aga…
First time coming. Everyone telling me how great it was. Unfortunately i was disappointed. Went there with a group for work upon entering hostess was very nice. I informed who i was with and when she began to instruct a waiter to take me another lady came and said "no she can go by herself it's …
Who can resist the enchiladas! El Paso comfort food at its best-red enchiladas. The homey atmosphere and home-style cookin' make Leo's a weekly dining experience. The wait staff is efficient AND friendly. Try the carnitas-best in town.
The staff and managers here are some of the nicest people you will ever come in contact with. When you visit G&R you will feel as if you were a part of their family, like you just walked into grandmas house. The food here is as terrific as the people. So if you like great food, friendly people w…
In a region famed for its Mexican fare, this is the best. Entrees are generous enough to share; flavors are vibrant; the salsa is worthy of bottling. The prices are unbeatable and the atmosphere is absolutely charming in a throwback kinda way. My only gripe (and this is grasping at a straw, I…
There is no fence sitting on this one. Gil's is the BEST Mexican restaurant in El Paso... hands down. My husband and I got HOOKED on Gil's Special Burrito. It comes red or green. We love the red. To us it is less spicy and SO MUCH MORE tender than the green, and the burrito is the size of a small child! It is HUGE. We usually order one for pick up and split it. The pork in it is very tender. It literally melts in your mouth. The flavor is just *roll-your-eyes-to-the-back-of-your-head* outstanding! On to the *lighter* side. I am a huge fan of their brisket tacos. I believe they actually fry their own taco shells. They are slightly greasy, but not a gross greasy. A soft, warm, crispy, crunchy mouth feel and the taste is like no other. We've had their dessert flan... which is good... but not really outstanding. However, you don't go there for their dessert... you go for the best food you can ever eat in El Paso! The staff are friendly, nice and treat you like you were family visiting their home. I have never had such an all around pleasant visit to any restaurant anywhere. You cannot go wrong with Gils. I've been a customer of theirs for almost a year now and never once had a bad experience or bad food.
My family and I had seen a commercial not to long ago about this place. Well let me start by saying what you see on the commercial is what you get. I had the Pulpo a Las brazas it was delicious it comes with what they call "black sauce", which seems to be a citrus Worcestershire sauce. My wife had the Filete Ajillo which was amazing it came with a side of mashed potatoes and rice. They only downside that I saw was when we ordered the Camarones al mojo de ajo. This plate is shrimp sautéed with garlic mashed potatoes and rice but it only included 6 large shrimp. For those with a sweet tooth the chocoflan hits the spot, you are in for a treat I dont like sweets but this was perfect. The service was stupendous but what was just over the top I saw what I can only assume might be the owner offering complementary beer to the parties waiting for a table while he apologized for the wait. I haven't seen this type of service since the last time I visited a high end restaurant in Cd. Juarez, MX.
First time coming. Everyone telling me how great it was. Unfortunately i was disappointed. Went there with a group for work upon entering hostess was very nice. I informed who i was with and when she began to instruct a waiter to take me another lady came and said "no she can go by herself it's right down the hall to your right and she'll figure it out". Keep in mind I had never been here. Waiter that took our order was not very keen on having to tend to us either. To be honest the busboy helping the waiter was MUCH more polite than the waiter. I had i expectations and thought if I enjoyed myself I would return. That is not my thought any longer. The food unfortunately also was not so great. The plate itself was extremely hot but the food was barely warm. My steak was too chewy and I had a hard time chewing it. I have to return in 2 weeks due to work and I hope it is a much different experience, one that is MUCH more pleasant.
These people are just writing reviews for the heck of it. I encourage any customer that has been there to please write an honest review. I am a customer and I feel that it is unfair to write such hate reviews. I have been there MANY times and I can tell you that for SUNDAYS! this restaurant serves the most delicious MENUDO I have had in a long time. I used to go to other restaurants for my Sunday Menudo, but now, I only go to Apetitos. I have taken a pot and they fill it with menudo for a very reasonalble price. You get it with all the garnishments, limes, Mexican oregano and their delicious butterd bread. I have also tried their breakfasts and all of them are excellent. The service is great, the servers greet you and bring you a nice portion of tortilla chips, which by the way are made there, and come with a nice portion of their salsa. Good place to go relax with the family.
Have gone to Casita Linda three different times. The food has been amazing each time when my wife and I ate there. This last past time I ate the tortilla soup, shredded beef tacos with rice and beans, and for dessert I had a cinnamon sopaipilla. First the tortilla soup had fresh tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, and tortilla strips. It was more of a broth with all of the fixings. The shredded beef tacos were amazing. Fried shells with fresh lettuce, tomato, and cheese. You get three tacos, rice, and beans. Finally the dessert was the topper of the meal. Cinnamon covered sopaipilla, thin breading deep fried and covered with cinnamon. The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and homely. The service was super quick for a Friday night and packed house. Hands down favorite Mexican restaurant and recommend it to everyone I come into contact with.
This place is fantastic, I have been to other restaurants but the service and food here is exceptional. It is authentic Mexican Food, this place needs to be reviewed by that critic in the newspaper. You have great and fast service, the Chile Con Queso, the green enchiladas and the brisket tacos are just to die for. Their Mole special on Wednesdays is like mother used to make. They have daily specials which will be served to you in 5 minutes or less. On Fridays it is very busy but service is so fast that you get to wait no more than 10 minutes to enjoy your meal right away. The atmosphere on friday's is great to go and enjoy with your family and/or friends. Try it you won't regret this place, I guarantee it. You'd wish you would have heard of it sooner. Their daily lunch specials won't break your wallet.
I stopped into Riviera for lunch and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is nothing special to look at - the sign said it's been there since 1948 - but it was clean and has a homey feel. The meal started with tortillla chips and semi-spicy fresh red salsa. I didn't see anything but soft drinks on the menu, but I saw someone else having a can of beer so that's what I ordered. Not sure if they have margaritas. I ordered the "old green" chile enchiladas, which were full of, and covered by, melted cheese. I wanted more of the tangy sauce, but overall the dish was very good. The rice and refried beans were a nice complement. The portion size was good for the price. The service was a little on the pokey side, but very pleasant. Overall, a good stop for a relaxed Mexican lunch.
Gil's is I think one of the best Mexican Restaurants here in El Paso. They have lunch specials that are at a great price and also very delicious. If you go during lunch time you are serviced immediately within 5 minutes of sitting down. So if you are limited time for work this is the best place to go... their brisket tacos, mole, enchiladas, especially the chile con queso is out of this world. I just cannot find any serving that I can say I didnt enjoy. All my family goes there for special occasions due to the variety and for the great service. If you haven't gone there you need to see what you have been missing. The food if great and so is the staff.....
If you are planning on having a delicious dinner while listening to a lively mariachi band then Gil's Mexican Restaurant is certainly the place you want to be. A moderately priced variety of traditional Mexican food items is listed on the menu which is certain to please those looking for a light dinner or a robust meal. The service is very attentive and continually refreshes your drink or the ever present chips & salsa. If you are planning on having a family gathering then accommodations can be made for large groups provided you call a few days in advance. One highly recommended dish is the Chile con Queso Ribeye Steak dinner which is certain to please.
