Overall

Just a piece of information to pet owners. Dr. Kevin J. Gross of East Meadow Animal Hospital in East Meadow, NY overcharges and performs unnecessary, costly tests and procedures even if it hurts the animal. One of many examples is when my dog had a splinter in her paw. I removed it myself and she started favoring the splintered paw and tried to walk more on the unsplintered paw. I set up an appointment to have an x-ray. When I made the appointment, I specifically requested another one of their other doctors by name and the appointment was set. The office called me 45 minutes before my appointment and cancelled out on me due to "inadequate staffing." I asked why we needed more than one person for an x-ray. His admin told me that Dr. Gross said he needs to put the dog under anesthesia and it was apparent that Dr. Gross wanted to handle this case himself . In other cases in the past, Dr. Gross had given me different information than I had gotten from the other doctors such as Dr. Thonsen and Dr. Mansfield. The other doctors always gave the same diagnosis, but Dr. Gross always made it out to be something bigger and more costly than it really is. He uses scare-tactics to get people to give in the these costly procedures that are not suggested by any other doctors. One of their other doctors, Dr. Lopez was wonderful and he walked out on the practice twice. He came back once because he had many patients who loved him, so he gave the practice another chance and unfortunately, he had to walk out on them again. Both times it was on bad terms. In addition to the x-ray incident, I also asked about the prescription food (which is costly) that I had ordered for my dog about a week before. I said I wanted to come in and pay for it and pick it up and they said it was not ordered yet even though he is fully aware that my dog has bad allergies and that if she eats regular, non-prescription pet food, her paws start to itch profusely until they bleed. So, I was forced to give her store-bought food until I could get a prescription from another vet and get her the food she needs. At that point, I just said to Dr. Gross's admin "Forget the food and forget the x-ray. I will take my pet elsewhere". I have reason to believe that Dr. Gross's decisions are NOT based on what is best for my pet, but rather what is best for his profit. If any of you pet owners out there who are reading this can give me a good recommendation for a veterinarian, I would be very grateful. My dog is 10 years old and I want to find an honest and caring veterinarian. You can email me at southpaw115@yahoo.com.
