Established in 1973, Synergy Alternative High School enrolls more than 100 students in grades 9 through 12. The school operates Friends of Alternative Education (F.A.T.E.), which is a parent-teacher organization that conducts several fundraising activities and special programs. It offers the Life Long Initiative for Education program for students between the ages of 17 and 19. Synergy Alternative High School s staff includes psychologists, guidance counselors, nurses, day care assistants, custodians and social workers. Its academic curriculum includes technology study, English, science, music, art, physical education, reading, writing, social studies and math. The school also offers the Great Expectations Young Parents Program, which focuses on day care services for the babies of young parents. The school additionally provides food and transportation-related services. Located in East Hartford, Conn., Synergy Alternative High School is a part of East Hartford Public Schools, which governs several educational institutions.
