I was told he wouldn't tow my car because it was going to be dark soon and he only tows during the day. That is the absoulte most ridiculous thing I've ever heard from a 24 hour towing company. Called another local towing company near by- they were there in 30 minutes.

Terrible service and unethical business practices. I would not recommend them, so stay away and find another provider.

Smitty's Towing is under new ownership, so as the previous reviews have spoken of this previous owner, they should no longer apply, and the slate should be clean for the company. To also add to his preface, I have to say that 1) I don't normally write reviews, and 2) I have absolutely nothing against towing companies or am under any sort of spell of rage from my car being towed; that would be extremely unfair to a company just trying to do its part.

The first of my experiences with this company, was in the fall of 2016. I received a call from a friend, living at the Cottages. Her car had been towed, by Smittys. The Cottage's management verified the car's ability to park within the Cottages; as she was a resident. Smitty's towing then brushed off a call from Cottage's management and said that there was no sticker on her car. I drove this friend down to Smitty's office on Dover Road, and came in with her. The worker behind the desk was extremely friendly, and bewildered by my friend's claim but complied and sent a worker out back. As it turned out Smittys had taken towed the car, even though it had a sticker. After this had been sorted, the car was released for free.

Two months later I had to drive a different friend, who had her car towed by Smittys, down to their office again. Again Smittys had made the mistake of towing a car, which was rightfully parked in its lot. The sticker for this car was clearly in the specified part of the window. It was again released free of charge.

As only one person in a town of over 14,000, to have two different incidents occur with this company, in less than a couple months apart is ridiculous. If someone is illegally parked and can be towed, so be it; you were caught and you now have to pay the piper. But incidents like this shouldn't need to happen if proper professionalism is involved.

Smitty is a total crook. He works with the UNH Administration to use the parking facilities at UNH as a major income maker. He'll tow your vehicle just down the road and charge you around $120 for the tow, which is outrageous. Also, he told my daughter if she didn't pay that night, she would be charged an overnight storage fee on top of a storage fee he was already charging her for only around 2 hours of having the vehicle of $140. When Smitty discovered my wife and I got involved, he quickly dismissed the existing $140 for only 2 hours because he knew we would be wiser about the situation, so obviously, Smitty tries to take advantage of young UNH students. However, he said we would have to pay an overnight storage charge of $140 if we didn't pay that night and he wouldn't give us our car back until the University tickets were paid. He demanded cash only, and if you heard what he said, you would know he wanted cash to avoid paying taxes. He charged us $120 for a tow just down the street, outrageous! We approached the Attorney General's Office and he denied ever asking for storage charges from anyone. We know other students whom have been threatened with overnight charges as well as actually paid overnight charges. Also, the amounts are inconsistent, so he charges what he thinks he can get away with. The Attorney General's Office took his side without even reading our letters. They couldn't even be bothered with taking the time to read our letters, unbelievable! They just reiterated to us the lie that Smitty dreamt up and rehearsed. UNH having Smitty's Towing retain a student's vehicle until their parking tickets are paid is totally ridiculous, which should be illegal. Think about it! Smitty's Towing can tow your vehicle at any time and charge outrageous storage fees with holding onto the vehicle until you pay your UNH parking tickets. We have never experienced anything ever like this with the University my wife and I attended as well as what we have learned from others whom attended universities over the years as well as when we attended our university. All they would do is hold onto your grades, plus the fines were very reasonable where the University of New Hampshire charges $100 for many tickets plus a large portion of their parking spaces aren't clearly marked and there isn't enough reasonable parking spaces for commuters at peak class attendance times at all. So, UNH's shortcomings are pushed very hard upon the commuting students. We have approached various individuals within UNH Parking Administration as well as other areas of administration on campus without sympathy. UNH parking administration should wear Nazi uniforms and Smitty's employees should wear some type of law enforcement uniforms and have painted markings similar to enforcement officers because UNH Parking Administration treats commuting students just as severe criminals, not good college students as they are. Students need to rally and gather to stop this unscrupulous income making scheme within the parking facilities on campus which is the only way to approach it as Smitty totally lies to all and UNH works very well with Smitty's Towing to make as money as possible for both parties. We have tried countless times to talk with Parking Administration among other areas of administration on campus and just get the runaround like ping pong of blame shifting when both parties know fully well what's going on as Smitty himself admitted this unscrupulous money making scheme has been going on for at least 20 years. WOW! You should see Smitty's vehicle he drives outside of work which is very expensive and flashy as my daughter noticed so very obviously. We fully know where he's getting the money to afford such a lavish lifestyle from. Also, tuition at the University of New Hampshire is outrageous, which finally had to have a freeze put on it, which Maggie Hassan was key to. She is a very well deserving Governor with caring and listening to voters.
