When a car is damaged by an accident or weather, what can be repaired and what must be replaced? Or is it time to buy a new car?
No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.
All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
The absolute best service I have ever received from anywhere bar none! They are fair, honest, and competent. They really know what they're doing. My mom's AC quit working just all at once. One minute it was ice cold, and the next, it stopped working altogether. She took it to the dealer. We all know how high-priced the dealer is, but it's not just about the price--their diagnosis was wrong. The dealer told her she needed a new blower. The quote was almost $600! I went to Cool Car Auto Air, because I had heard they were the best in town for AC work. This is the first time I had ever gone there, and a man named Gus assured me that he could solve the problem. Gus looked it over and told us the blower was fine. It was just the resistor! Now, normally, when the resistor goes, the AC will only work on one speed for a while. It's a gradual decline. But there are always exceptions. And that's why when you need work done, it's crucial that you go somewhere where they know how to diagnose the real issue and not play guessing games. Needless to say, Gus' quote was much lower than the dealership who are not only high but who also got the diagnosis wrong! It's blowing ice cold again. And it turned out that the new part was actually defective (which isn't common, but it can happen), so the next day Gus had to replace it and fix it again. There was no griping or complaining from him--just superlative service after the sale. That is so rare in today's world. Gus is a man of his word, and he doesn't just talk about providing great customer service...he actually goes the extra mile and does it. If you want high quality service at a fair price performed by technicians who know what they are doing and WHO ARE HONEST, then you can't go wrong choosing Cool Car Auto Air. Gus and his crew being competent is one thing, and it is highly prized, but their honesty and integrity is priceless. I am very happy and satisfied, and I highly recommend them. I will never go anywhere else. And they do other work, too, not just AC. Five stars all the way!
I live in the Atlanta area, but a while back had to head to Fort Benning to take care of some business for my deployed soldier in Fort Benning. On the way my car started making noises, but was still driving ok. I figured I should call around to some places in the area just to get it checked out before I made the drive back. I called several places and people were trying to guess over the phone what the problem was and it was very expensive things that they were guessing! How on Earth could they guess by my description of a noise that my car needed hundreds of dollars in repairs! Transmission Doctors and More was my 4th call and my last, thank God! I spoke with Josh, the manager, he was so polite, didn't seem too busy to help me or spend a few minutes with me on the phone, didn't try to guess what my problem was and did not try to preface my visit with an outrageous quote!I stopped by Transmission Doctors and More on my way back from Benning, I was greeted by Josh and they took my car right in. In and out in under an hour for an easy fix and my bank account still existed! To this day I travel out of my way to Columbus just to take my car to be worked on by honest people. Thanks Trasmission Docs and Josh!#transmissiondoctorsandmore #transmissiondoctors #transmisssiondocs #fortbenningcarrepair #fortbenningrepair #benningcarrepair #benninggarage #fortbenninggarage #columbuscarrepair #columbus #fortbenning #columbusgarage #supportthetroops #veteransupporters
From the moment you meet the people here including the manager you will probably feel like you have known them for a long time. Even though the part was late coming in they fixed it after hours and allowed us to come pick it up that night and they guarantee their work so you won't have to pay anything if that issue wasn't done correctly the first time. They get returning customers because you know they will get it done right at a reasonable price. Since they are founded on integrity they encourage you to let them show you the part(s) that was not working properly. I would definitely recommend them without a doubt and will try to get any future repairs done by them. The owner and evening mechanic have been friends and working together for well over 20 years which tells you they trust one another and the female mechanic we spoke to knew her trade and the fact of her being a little dirty from work lets you know she means business. All around we were very impressed. Living in Germany for 6+ years really has made it hard to trust an American mechanic(sorry but true - you know the stories) but from the get go you have the comfort level with this shop and everyone in it. This is the shop that makes you wish you stayed in your home town because you knew who you could trust and who you couldn't - well, you take the chance and let them work on your vehicle and you will at least know you have found a mechanic shop you can trust in the Columbus area.
Outstanding customer service. I was stationed overseas in Korea for 2.5 years, with my truck in a storage unit and wanted to get her back up an running while I was on leave in the US. I found Davo Jr Automotive by searching Google and after reading the reviews and decided to give it a shot. Contacted Davo while I was in Korea to get the ball rolling and had an informative email the very next day due to the time difference. Upon arriving on a Monday, and making a phone call at 9 AM to Davo, They came within an hour with his wrecker, picked up my vehicle and brought it to his shop. The turn around time he explained to me was going to be Tues Afternoon to Wed afternoon, but after explaining that we were staying in a hotel and were planning on leave on Tues to travel cross country to California he said he would see what he could do, his shop was full of cars and they seemed like they had a heavy workload. We got a call at 5:15 from PM from Davo that same day saying the truck was good to go, full auto inspection, brand new battery, fuel drained, fresh oil changed, with new oil and air filters. Davo manage to shuffle other car repairs around in order to get my truck done and ready to go to met our timeline. In the end everything was amazing, they were Professional, honest, and Knowledgeable. I recommend him to anyone seeking automotive repairs. Thanks Davo!
We recently moved to Columbus and were in need of mechanic for our Lexus IS300. We found Davo and are happy we did, as it's often stressful and difficult to find a trusted and reliable mechanic. We brought it in originally for some electrical work and not only did he fix it quickly and for an affordable price, he provided excellent customer service every step of the way. He called to let us know the status, the problem, etc. A lot of our previous mechanics would not be in touch for days, and leave us wondering what the status of our vehicle was. We recently used Davo again when the check engine and other error lights came on. He told us to bring it in immediately and be hooked it up to the code reader. Instead of letting it sit, he hooked it right up to the machine as soon as we arrived. It turns out it was due to low gas levels and nothing serious, but thanks to his ability to quickly find the problem, we were not sitting wondering all weekend. Thanks to Davo for helping us so quickly. He didn't have to stop what he was doing to address out problem, but he did. Davo has been great--both in his work and customer service--and we're glad we found a trusted mechanic in our new town of Columbus.
Davo is a great guy who is truly cares about his customers. I was an owner of a land rover discovery, I broke down near exit 3 on my way to post. I called Davo not knowing him and mentioned my situation. He came out within minutes to tow my car off the highway and took it to his shop and did a diagnostic. The car was ruined (having a hole in my block).. and i purchased a Range Rover Sport.Davo is my man when it comes to service on my car. He is always a phone call away and is always looking to follow up and keep track of how my car is doing. He's done oil change, brakes and rotor change for me... fast, affordable and friendly. Davo's credentials are outstanding, he is honest and upfront and he asks what you ask him to fix. He lets you make the choices about what he works on... not fixing everything in the car and then popping you a 1000 dollar bill. If your looking for a mechanic in columbus seek davo... also he values military members.Definitely not a sketchy place and i trust him and his team with my "baby" anyday.
I run a non-profit out of Savannah GA that helps families who are having to travel for their chronically ill child to receive acute care. We assist with travel related expenses such as gas, food, lodging when the Ronald McDonald House is full, and car repairs. I received a referral from the Children's Hospital in Atlanta for a family whose only car was not driveable. The child has stage 4 neuroblastoma (cancer). The family is from Columbus, GA. Being in Savannah, I did not have any connections in Columbus, so I had to rely on reviews like this one to find a reputable repair shop. Mike at Davo Jr Automotive was wonderful to work with. He called or texted updates on the repairs regularly, but most of all, he was fair and honest. I had an initial quote from a dealer fro the repairs needed. Mike checked everything out and determined that was not even the issue. He fixed the vehicle for a fraction of the cost of the dealership. I highly recommend his company to anyone.
MY WATER PUMP WENT OUT ON MY VEHICLE, GOOGLE TOWING TO TOW MY VEHICLE TO THE BMW SERVICE DEPT. YP POPPED UP WITH ALOT OF DIFFERENT TOWING COMPANIES WITHIN THE AREA. I CHOSE AND SCHEDULED AN APPT. FOR PICK UP FROM DAVO JR. GAVE HIM A CALL FOR AN APPT., HE TOLD ME TO CHECK OUT HIS WEBSITE AND THAT HE WORKS ON FORIEGN CARS TOO. I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE WEBSITE, SO WHEN HE CAME TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, I DECIDED FOR HIM TO WORK ON MY VEHICLE OTHER THAN BMW. NOWING BMW WOULD COST AN ARM AND A LEG JUST TO GET IT DONE. NOTHING AGAINST BMW, BUT MY VEHICLE IS A 97 BMW STRICTLY FOR WORK. TRANSPORTING ME TO AND FROM WORK. DAVO JR FIXED MY CAR WITH AN AFFORDABLE AND LOWER PRICE. AND WAS ALSO ON POINT FOR THE PICK UP DATE THAT WAS SCHEDULED. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DAVO JR AUTOMOTIVE 24/7 WRECKER SERVICE TO EVERYONE THAT'S PASSING THRU OR THATS FROM THE TRI-CITY AREA!!!
I bought a 07 Lexus RX400h recently. It was having some issues. I had taken my old car to a different mechanic and was not satisfied with the work. This place had good reviews so I decided to give Davo a try, best decision I've made! This guy is professional, honest and knowledgeable. After fixing my vehicle, it was still having some minor problems. Took it to Mike, he diagnosed the problem correctly, ordered some new parts and fixed the issue. He did not charge me again for parts and labor. Mike was very patient through the entire process and he treats his customers with respect. Trust me, if you are looking for a good mechanic, who can diagnose your problem correctly and does not overcharge, Davo's your guy! Thanks again Davo
Syl D. Great experience with this Transmission Doctor and More. I live in Atlanta and was visiting in Columbus when I experienced car trouble. I went to a couple of shops but everyone wanted to charge more or fix more then I truly needed. The Manager at the shop was wonderful, he was very knowledgeable and explained to me what needed to be done. The Manager ran a diagnostic and was able to fix my repairs and saved me some money. Being a female it is hard to know who to trust when you get your car worked on. I have had other family and friends take their car to Transmission Doctor and More and all very happy with the service and quality of work. I highly recommend this place can't say enough good things about them.
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
