I just ate at Capers for the very first time and boy was I delighted! My husband and some of my friends have told me about this place for years and I always thought they were exaggerating. They were NOT! You pick your steak (New York Strip, Delmonico (ribeye), T-bone, or filet by the ounce, the potatoes are stuffed with a selection of broccoli, cheddar cheese, bacon, steak, sour cream and they are HUUUGE! We went at about 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon and we were seated and served right away. They say it can get real crowded and the place only seats about 50 people. The decor reminds me of a south side bar in Chicago---small, but clean, dimly lit with small square dining tables, no table cloths. Several big screens throughout, a nice sized bar, and very friendly wait staff. If you like steak, forget about the chain steakhouses and go to Capers----check out the pictures of the dessert. Oh yeah, my husband and I both got delicious, 12 oz Delmonico steaks cooked to perfection, dinner salad that we made ourselves, we split a stuffed baked potato and a pitcher of beer (they had 32 oz Miller lights on special for $3), a hunk of carrot cake and a hunk of chocolate cake, iced tea and the bill only came to $43. Let me know if you can top that!!!
I have traveled to many countries and eaten at many different restaurants and this was one of the top places I have ever eaten in my life! It is hard to find such amazingly flavourful food made with such fresh ingredients and that is at such a great price. Everything from the biscuits with butter to the hand squeezed lemonade to the banana pudding cheesecake was delicious. The shrimp scampi was some of the best shrimp I have ever eaten, fresh, juicy and had an amazing lemon butter sauce that made you feel like you were on the East Coast. This shrimp literally brought tears to the eyes of the group I was with. The mac and cheese was super flavourful and the fried chicken reminded me of my grandma's. We were such a large group we were such a large group so we were able to taste most of the cheesecakes and desserts which were all spectacular but especially the apple crisp cheesecake, key lime pie cheesecake and the banana pudding cheesecake. The meal was so great we went back two days later and plan on going back the next time we are in town. This is definitely a place not to miss when one is in Detroit!
Well when I first walked in I was not greated or seated. It took about five minutes for some one to come and talk to me. The server who approached me was not my server but she was kind and Curtis towards me. It was at least 20 minutes before I was greated by my server. I do know they could use a couple more servers they seem to get pretty busy at lunch time. When my order arrived the portions was over what they should serve. The taco meat was spicy and I sent it back. This time I order a chicken cordon blue. It arrived a little faster this time but the lettis is a long string of lettis. Dispit the long lettis it was jucie and well cooked. The restraint is clean and the people are friendly but they need to pay attention to how long some one is sitting in there sections I waited all together 42 minutes for my mean the right way. Nit to mention I saw many mistakes the servers made. Mixing up orders and running around. They need more workers.
First the service we recieved was terrific in every way. However, the food was good but wasn't great. For the prices they charge I expected better quality. The filet mignon my husband ordered as $33 for a 6oz and came ala carte so he spent another $9 just to have a side with his steak. I have never seen any restuarant serve steak without at least a vegetable included. Then we get the steak and it was comparable to any cheap steak house that's under half the price. This was the first time I have dined in a restaurant with these prices and I had to use a sharp steak knife to cut the filet instead of a butter knife at most. The only two good points of our experience is having a great waiter and their breadbasket was good. Unfortunately we won't be coming back unless the food quality goes up to match the service. When you spend over $200 on lunch for 3 people you shouldn't leave disappointed with quality.
this place wont make it the next couple of months, i ordered the salmon burger and it was falling completely apart, i had to eat it with a fork! it wasnt all that tasty either, and the manager didnt care what we going on he just kept watching whatever game was on, and the only upside to this experience was our server Daniel, my family could tell he was doing whatever he could to better our experience, including speaking with his manager on 2 seperate occasions, before he finally deciding to peel his eyes from whatever game, to come speak with us. all in all, Mr. Gooden isnt fit to manage McDonalds, and this place would be better if more people like Daniel were hired, also the busser checked on us more then the manager, meant to catch his name. 2-stars only because of my server and busser, everyone else should be fired
You feel welcome as soon as you walk in , as though you have been there many times . You are greeted with with a warm smile / hello, then you say to yourself I like this place . If I had company in town or just friends or family , I would not hesitate too say lets go to " Enjoy " . Staff is professional / courtesy ! They say we should never use the word " all " , in this case the word " All " is warranted . All of the food is good . And last but not least the restaurant is clean . In closing continue doing what you are doing and you will be there for generations too come.
Capers has excellent quality steaks for the monies. The service is friendly and prompt. Locally set within the neighbor hood, perfect place to mingle and have great conversations. The steaks are ordered by the once and prepare to perfection tantalizing the palate. Everyone states that they need to expand but that is what makes the experience so unique, and down to earth. You don't find many places like this any more, to use an analogy it like cheers! I'd like to extend a five star rating to the management and staff for the hospitality extended to all patrons . This past weekend we were Downtown and were looking for a great stake house, decided to try London Chop House for the first time, I didn't think much of it but it did have great reviews. When we got there I really liked the place, didn't feel like I was Downtown Detroit but more like Manhattan NY. All I can tell you is that there was 6 people in are party and everyone of us loved everything about it, service was great, food was excellent. I used to be a fan of Ruth Chris but this place is my new steak house. Would definitely recommend to everyone.
So I go here all the time for a Mexican Omelette and today when I go here the cheap owner is cooking gives me a Mexican Omelette with a spoon of chili outside and a spoon of vegetables in side..so I'm like this is thinner than a pancake literally so after 15 she said he'll put the meat I'm it like its suppose to be so I'm thinking I'm getting hot food??? Um no the same food that's been sitting out and he tried to cover it with chili and cheese that doesn't go on the outside?? Really so got up and left..Horrible ...
This place is a whole in the wall, but once inside the hole, you are treated to one of the most unique taste treats in the City. I have never experience ribs done this way. They are a compliment to the crab legs that don't need anything but crackin'! You forget all about your side dishes that are equally delicious. Unpretentious, family atmosphere where the cooks make you feel like you're on the back porch with your shoes off enjoying a night with friends. You gotta try it.
