General Info: VARCA (Valley Association for Retarded Children and Adults)is a private non-profit agency that provides work opportunities to mentally disabled adults through its sheltered workshop program, George Hegyi Industries. VARCA serves mental handicapped people in the towns of Derby, Ansonia, Shelton, Seymour and Beacon Falls in Connectcuit. The company sponsors weekly bowling, dances, a special Holiday luncheon, a yearly picnic and attendance at local sporting events. VARCA places individuals in one of nine departments where they are assigned varying types of packaging and assembly jobs. Client and employees receive weekly earnings based on their productivity. Transportation is now provided to individuals who live in Derby, Ansonia, Shelton, Seymour, as well as Milford, Beacon Falls and Oxford on a limited basis. Recreational activities are also offered through various agency-sponsored events. VARCA was established in 1959 and is headquartered in Derby, Conn.
