The wait staff lures me back but the manger was irrelevant, pretentious and showy. I hope to see a more relevant and sincere management team here.

Traditional American Steak House offering aged cuts of beef, seafood dishes and gourmet sides. The decor is steril and lack of beauty or distinction. This place went from great to good and now it is average at best . Capital Grille is no longer in the same class as DelFrisco or Sullivant. The capital grille of Denver has NO flash and very little substance

On a positive note: With the opening of Ocean Prime, there will be MORE empty tables.

There are much better options in Denver.

To dine or NOT to dine? it's an easy question to answer here.

Pros: No waiting at the capital grille since there are always emty tables
Cons:Little substance

great service

I've always had really good food and service here. They've got a cool bar and a great wine menu. I'm a big fan of Larimer Square in general, so I'm glad they're located there. This is a good place for dinner and then you can bar hop afterward.

Great for a special occasion or nice cocktail

I’ve been to the Capital Grille for special occasions, business lunches or for a nice cocktail on a week/weekend night. The ambiance is classy but not stuffy and I’ve always been treated very well there. My steak of choice would be the Delmonico, a 22oz marinated ribeye with plenty to take home. The lobster bisque is delicious and I can’t say enough about the lobster macaroni and cheese or the coconut cream pie.

They are also known for their stoli doli martini’s, pineapple that’s been soaked in vodka then shaken with ice and poured into a chilled martini glass.

Check it out!

Inconsistent - that's good if you are a gambler

I have had rude treatment here and FABULOUS treatment here. It depends on how much you want to spend (in this economy) for the gamble. Maybe the economy wil have them working at being considerate to ALL patrons on a regular basis. WHAT A CONCEPT !

The Food is Average At best!

I have been to this restaurant several times. Of the times that I have been there, one person had to send their steak back 3 times because is was so horribly undercooked, one person got salmon that honestly tasted worse than any other I have tried and they messed up my salad order....A Salad! There are plenty of steakhouses downtown and this one is the worst, and most expensive. The only good thing about my meal last time, is that someone else paid the bill.

a capital disappointment!

I love the Capital Grille brand; many great steaks were eaten there at the Boston store. The Denver Capital Grille used to be a a great restaurant when it first opened. The key phrase is used to be................... the steak was cold. Cold! The dining room is so loud you cannot hear the person next to you; perhaps this is why our waiter got our order wrong twice! The whole experience was made worse by all the drunk patrons.
If I am going to pay this kind of money for a steak i expect top service, WARM FOOD OR EVEN HOT and patrons to be civil. The prices are the same but Capital is not in the same ball park as Sullivan's or Delfriscoes or even Ruth's. Again, at those places at least your food is warm and at least not every customer is drunk as a skunk.
Avoid this restaurant until corporate gets some new management; the one in Providence and in Boston is SUPERIOR to this immitator. Is anyone in Corporate paying attention?

Great management

I have to admit that I have only been to the DC location. There, the food and service were excellent. My wife had a less-than-stellar experience at the Denver location a few weeks ago. She complained to the management and was immediately given a gift certificate. This restaurant has already shown us they care about their customers. We?ll be back soon.

great for a special occasion

My husband and I went to Capital Grille for our anniversary and it was a great experience. Every staff member we talked to wished us a happy anniversary. We requested a booth when making the reservation and not only did they give us a booth, they covered the table with rose petals and gave us an anniversary card! The service was phenominal and the food was excellent. To top it all off, we were given THREE complementary desserts as an anniversary gift! They gave us a huge platter with three of their best desserts and didn't charge us at all for them. There were even candles on each of the desserts. They definately went above and beyond our expectations and helped make our anniversary memorable.

Good overall experience

Excellent Food, Excellent Wine and Excellent Service.
A bit pricey, and the ambiance is loud and not romantic.

don't waste your time or money

we went recently to celebrate a birthday and were completely underwhelmed. citysearch needs to update their reviews.several years ago my review would have been different. it seems that alot has changed at the capital grille. the food was cold, the service was slow and inattentive and overall our experience sub par. the dining room was very loud and there seemed to be a lot of very drunk patrons there. i don't mind paying for a really great dining experience but this one was dismal and way overpriced.

The Best Part of Our Trip to Denver

My wife and daughter and I were in town and went to the Capital Grille despite some of the negative reviews on this site. From the minute we walked in we were greeted warmly and treated by the staff as if they cared about us despite knowing that we would probably never be back. Our server, Michelle, gave us excellent recommendations for both our steaks and our wine (a superb Syrah) and we were so pleased with them. The service was just right... not too fast to be pushy but not so slow we forgot what we ordered. Michelle was back numerous times to make sure we were happy and our wine was poured. She asked us about our family and seemed genuinely interested. As for the food, I had the Porcini Rubbed Delmonico with 8-Year Aged Balsamic (so unique and full in it?s taste), my wife had the Sliced Filet Mignon with Cipollini Onions and Wild Mushrooms (absolutely able-to-cut-with-a-fork tender), and my daughter the Kona Crusted Dry Aged Sirloin with Caramelized Shallot Butter (from the sample she gave me even better than my steak.) My ?Wedge? lettuce salad with Bleu Cheese and Crumbled Bacon was fresh as if it came from the garden and the dressing was so delicious I ate every dribble. The entire night was beyond our expectations. Comparing it to another famous steakhouse we had gone to our first night in town revealed the Capital to be the winner in all categories. Expensive... yes, but well worth it. It will be an experience we will remember for quite awhile and, if ever again in Denver, we will certainly be back.

Not so good anymore

At one time, Capital Grille was a great place to go for a special occasion. Unfortunately, our most recent visit will be our last visit. Food was subpar, service was pretentious, and the overall experience was a huge disappointment. For a restaurant to command such high prices, they should be ready to deliver impeccable food and service, not just rely on their reputation.

Wonderful steaks and service

I have never the steaks at the upscale steak houses were any better than you could make on your grill. You hear me Ruth?s Chris, adding butter doesn't make your steak that much better. But the Capital Grille charged my mind. The steak was cooked to perfection (assuming you know what medium rare really looks like) and so very tender. Likewise our steak tartare appetizer was just as favorable, well seasoned yet not so much as to hide the true flavor of the beef.

In addition to the terrific steaks, the service is the best I have ever encountered. No attitude from the staff-just smiles and an ""aim to please"" attitude. When you make reservations, they will ask you if it is a special occasion. If so, your table will be decorated accordingly. In addition to a hand written anniversary card at the table when we arrived, our waiter sent us a thank you card a few days latter. This was also hand written and even made a joke relating to our conversation that evening. I have nothing bad to say-although it is pricy, but well worth it.

Best service and food

We had a family dinner at this restaurant and were impressed by the staff and their willingness to go above and beyond to make our evening un-forgettable. When we realized we forgot a camera, one of the stuff members ran out to get us a disposable camera. Our food was superb.

What a great place!

I have now eaten here a few times and the food has been amazing. The service has been a little up and down but still pretty good even when it was not so good. Everything was explained well and all the food came as it was supposed to be prepared. We have always made reservations and have been promptly seated which is a plus. I would recommend this place to anyone as a definite destination for a top quality steak in the Denver area.

Steaks over-rated

We have lived in Denver for a year and have read about the Capital Grille and their aged steaks. We had some friends in from Tucson and they wanted a greak steak before the Avalanche game. We were greeted promptly by a friendly hostess, seated immediately as there were only two patrons in the entire restaurant and they were sitting at the bar. Cutting to the chase, the service was poor, the steaks were not cooked to our specifications and were sent back to be re-cooked. Once they were brought back the second time....they were dry and could not be eaten. Did I mention we were there forever......and a day? Our friends left disappointed and hungry. Thank goodness for the many options for food at the Av's game.

Excellent, any way you look at it.

I went with my mother-in-law for lunch and we were treated like royalty. They changed our table linens from white to black (as I was wearing a black outfit). Service was prefessional, attentive and prompt. The food was amazing and well worth the price tag (lunch for 2 with soups and dessert was $120). Will definitely return again and again.

Outstanding experience

This is by far the best restaurant I've ever been too, across the country. Friendly, motivated staff combined with exceptional service and complimentary valet make this a sure thing when I want to entertain visitors to Denver. This restaurant thinks of everything, from bringing your car up as you are finishing desert to even placing your leftovers in the back seat for you so you don't forget them. Excellent food is experiences by my entire party each time I've visited (5 thus far). The staff is wonderful as they happily cater to your every request and provide complementary dessert should you be celebrating any occasion!

SO-SO food.

I went there last night to cleberate my anniversary with my boyfriend. We were really disapointed. The service was fact if it wasn't for the service we would have been completely and totally disapointed. I ordered a filet and specified medium to medium well...Anyone that knows filets knows that if you're going to cook it a little more butterflying is the best bet..the outside was really good but the middle looked almost rare and I was gagging on my steak...for 40 dollars I don't want to be gagging. My BF ordered the Kona sirloin also medium and he's came out rare-med rare he sent his back and the outside was fine but the middle was still a little to rare. After complaining once we didn't want to complain again so we just got boxes so we can grill it a little bit more. The Chocolate hazelnut cake was great though. The service was great, the food not so much.
