Business Description
La Loma began as a family-owned Mexican restaurant in a small brick house just a block away from what became our landmark location for over thirty years, on 26th Ave in Denver. Sonny Brinkerhoff loved the original restaurant, and in 1981, he and his son, William, relocated La Loma from its small house to its flagship location where it has resided ever since. The building was created by combining three Victorian miners’ houses dating from the 1800s, called The Colonial, The Victoria, and The Cantina. The hilltop restaurant with a view of downtown soon became a Denver staple. Sonny and William, along with Savina Mendoza, created a menu of Tex-Mex and Mexican favorites that showcased the flavors of the Southwest, featuring award-winning dishes like our renowned green chili, signature margaritas, and fresh tortillas, which are made on display in the dining room. Now, La Loma has moved to the heart of downtown across from the historic Brown Palace. We offer the same menu and many of the decorative touches our loyal guests have loved for decades including exposed brick with wooden accents, large, stained glass windows, and the photo of Savina Mendoza. “The restaurant is filled with character and charm,” according to Mark Brinkerhoff, William’s son, who joined his father in running the restaurant in 2005. La Loma’s famed barrel-aged tequila is still in the bar, and the atmosphere continues to be cozy and warm, welcoming parties of any size to enjoy their favorite dishes.

Stuffed sopapilla fans be warned!

The name alone should imply how the dish is made, Stuffed sopapillas! I didn't order a flat sopapilla sandwich.... come on man! The green chile was great, the salsa was hot. Service was pleasant but a tad slow (was a busy night I understand). Maybe I'll have to try something else from there menu. I could eat there again but wound not recommend to my friends, unless they were European.

Stuff verb (trans.)
1. fill (a receptacle or space) tightly with something : an old teapot stuffed
2. informal force or cram (something) tightly into a receptacle or space : he stuffed a thick wad of cash into his jacket pocket

Best Green Chile in Denver!

This is the best Mexican in Denver. The Green Chile is fresh and spicy and the guac is among the best (tastes very fresh, could use more spice). The dishes were very tasty and the very fresh tortillas made on sight were excellent. Good margs. Prices are more than reasonable. Overall, my favorite in Denver given with the high food quality, very pleasant wait staff and very well maintained restaurant.

Will go back again and again!

I had to write a review after reading all of the ""bad"" reviews I saw on here. I frequent La Loma quite often - I can't get enough of this place. I was honestly surprised that their was a bad review. I recommend trying it again. They have great service, food and atmosphere. I love their lighter side options as well as their green chili and amazing chili rellenos.

A bit over-rated

We've been to La Loma a couple of times and I would rate the food uneven. One special was bland while the green chile was excellent. It is a bit hit and miss. And be prepared for a very loud crowd, especially after sporting events. Probably best to plan a visit around the local sports calendar.

This food was made in NYC, get the rope!!!

As a traveling man that loves Mexican food. I ordered the stuff Chile Rellenos. It arrived in an eggroll-style wrap once I cut into it I couldnt find the Chile, the only thing missing was the Chinese plum sauce? The frozen Margarita was like having a shaved ice watered down? I think they should remove the word Authentic from there menu and say, Made in NYC!

Worst Service on the Planet!!!

I consider myself a burrito, fajita, enchilada, tostada, margarita and nacho expert. The level you don't have to take a class on. While I certainly believe La Loma has great fajitas, their lousy service can't make up for it. I have been a patron of La Loma's for over 20 years and over the years the service has been atrocious. I keep going back based on loyalty, although after tonight, never again!!! We actually had a server tell us he was TOO BUSY to take our order. After consulting with management, who asked us to stay on her tab, we opted out and went for fast food. The service at Good Times was exceptionally better than that at La Loma. Being a native, I can recommend far better jaunts than this. If you would like great Mexican, any Santiago's is far better. Julia Blackbird in the Highland area offers amazing New Mexican eats as does Jack and Grill. For simple fajitas, Chili's never disappoints, and all the while hold their staff to high standards. Hacienda Colorado is also a fantastic place for food and drinks. They put their staff through a strenuous training process and even a disappointed customer never walks out of there feeling bad. La Loma should look into the same! The service was way below par.

Credit Card Fraud! La Loma no bueno!!

We went to La Loma after the most recent Denver Broncos game to enjoy a few drinks and a nice meal. We were seated and waited around for a little while for a waiter. After around 10 minutes I got up asked the hostess if she could send someone over she obliged and I went to sit for another 10 minutes. No waiter 20 minutes in to our dining nightmare. So to ease the thirsty patrons I was dining with myself and another went to the bar inside and ordered 4 margaritas. We told the bartender who i believe was the manager on duty that we had no service and decided to get our own drinks. No response! Nice! After 30 mintues our waiter finally showed up with no remorse or apology. I believe the waiter was not even old enough to be serving liquor in CO. ANyway we finally got our subpar food sipped our overpriced watered-down margaritas and left extremely unsatisfied. On the way out we paid our tab at the hostess stand told the manager(bartender) about how horrible his service was gave a 8 or 10% tip and left.
One week later after checking our bank account we noticed that a 20% tip was added to the bill. We were a party of four for those of you thinking they automatically add it on. Our bank was thankfully kind and rejected the bill for us.
I would not recommend this place to anyone the food is extremely microwavable tasting and the margaritas are more watered down than their coke. On top of that they believe in rewarding horrible service. I believe the kid serving us was barely 17 if not 16 and stole money from my bank account.
We have placed a call to the Beter Business Bureau to report the incident.
At least the Broncos won so all was not lost that day!!
