The selection of drinks and Happy Hour prices were good, but we waited an unreasonable amount of time for our appetizers and then even longer for our meal, which was a small portion and only average. I would definitely go back for Happy Hour drinks, and might give dinner another try, but only when I have plenty of time. The wait-staff was friendly, but very busy and hard to flag down.

I've now dined at Highland Pacific Grill 4 or 5 times and thought I would jump on citysearch to let everyone know that this is one of the best dining experiences in town. The food is absolutely awesome. The best oysters in town, by far. The two owners are always there to greet you with a smile and the staff is very friendly and always there to help. I had the shrimp and gritz last night and it was, indeed, exceptional. I've never had a dish that just explodes in your mouth like the many items on the menu at HP. This restaurant is now in my regular rotation.
I'm not sure what happened with the other post before mine, but hey, I'm in sales and there are always a couple of bad apples here and there. Every restaurant has its share of ""needy"" customers.
If you haven't tried Highland Pacific Grill, your missing out.
We have lived in Denver since 1995. and years ago, the places to go out were, and still, the Gaylord District, Pearl St in WashPark or Downtown. We all have our favorite places, but, recently in the last three years, the resurgence of Highlands has made a solid case in one of the hottest neighborhoods. We now go to Highland Pacific frequently, and they are much more busy now than their first year. Everytime we go there we are greeted with warmth from the everyone, not just the staff, of course, there are times when we wait longer than planned...we expect to wait at the best places...a busy restaurant is a good thing! we think it is worth every minute of wait. Reading the ""terrible"" review below, i am somewhat hesitant and confused about this account of the events by ""russ22"". Sir, we WERE THERE and yes they were extremely busy that night...and yes WE ALL waited more than originally planned. I'm not overly concerned about the details at the table, sure...EVERYONE, you included, can make mistakes...it happens, but what we and about 20 other people witnessed that night is unacceptable! First, regardless of what happens in LIFE or (more-to-the-point) what happened in Highland Pacific, one should NEVER YELL at top level in a restaurant at a young woman who is humbly serving you. Second, after you were through with that very tense evening, one should NEVER hunt down the same young woman down and make her cry at your disposal. good one! Reading the other review, that was basically about the same incident involving ""russ22""...another good one ""russ22""!...it should rather read...""pretty scary customer""! good luck with all that russ22!

I am from South Louisiana and a Nutritionist so I feel I know good food when I eat it. My family and I travel a good bit on business and pleasure. On one of our trips to Denver we were introduced to Highland Pacific Restaurant and now I will not miss going there on my trips to Denver. The food is fantastic, well prepared and yes, will rival some of the restaurants in South Louisiana. I love the Crab Cake at Highland Pacifc because they are filled with meat and not breadcrumbs. The Shrimp Poboy's rival any I have had at home. If you are fortunate enough to be there when the Chef has prepared Steak Diane, be sure and order it, it is to die for, prepared to prefection. The White Chocolate Bread Pudding and the Creme Bruele better than Brennan's and Galatoire's. I have tried many of the items on the menu and they have all been well prepared and served in a timely manner. The service has been exceptional and our servers were friendly and treated us as if we were their most important customers. By the way, in South Louisiana the sign of a good restaurant is how long you have to wait to get in to eat, sometimes and hour or more, so if you find you have to wait to get a table, wait with anticipation, the food is worth the wait. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I was at H.P. on a recent Friday night having dinner with friends when some sort of fracas erupted amongst a server, the Chef/Owner, and several patrons who apparently had been unhappy with some aspect of their meal. Until that point, our experience had been fairly satisfactory. A few minor errors (we were seated a little late, drinks were slow to arrive and we never got wine lists) were pretty forgivable on a busy Friday night.
However, it seemed like whatever happened between the chef/owner and these other patrons just threw the place completely out of whack, because quiet pandemonium ensued afterwards. The rest of the staff ran out onto the sidewalk to get a glimpse of what was going one and so did we. All we could see and hear was the chef/owner swearing up a storm that a sailor would have admired, in the middle of the street in what is supposed to be a nice, quiet neighborhood. Upon the return of the enraged chef/owner, the rest of the staff seemed to cower in fear and confusion and the whole place sort of fell apart. Talk about impossible to get a glass of wine or extra bread. And the food became inconsistent (probably b/c the head chef left the kitchen to fight with customers).
I worked my way through high school, college and grad school waiting tables and I've never seen a restaurant employee, much less an owner or manager, verbally abuse customers. Nor have I ever seen a situation where an owner or manager let the restaurant fall apart purely because of some personal grudge match. We won't be going back.
The only reason I gave this a one, instead of a zero, is because prior to the fracas, the food was pretty good. Ahi ceviche was subtly flavored and used fresh tomatoes and ahi, although the corn chips that came with it are store-bought and stale. If you are just DYING to try this place out, I recommend you do it quick-like, b/c with restaurants with a chef/owner like this one never make it very long. So Long H.P. You won't be missed.
