DenverChop House is Garbage

Tried to eat there tonight and they tried to poison my wife and I by serving cornbread in a cast-iron skillet that had not been rinsed or seasoned. The bread was full of soap and metal scrubby shavings. The almond rice pilaf had no almonds but they used cheap walnuts as a substitute. The calamari was a bunch of tiny pieces over breaded to make them look big. The prime rib was so salty without the ajoice that it was inedible. When we notified the waitress she got a huge attitude. The manager showed no interest or concern. If you are not featured on the sports pages you get the scraps. But they are not shy about charging. $100 for crap. Don't waste your time or money at this restaurant.

Retirement party

We had a retirement celebration for a coworker at the Denver Chop was the worst dining experience I've ever had! First of all it was a lunch that had been scheduled for two weeks. We arrived at 11:30 and the hostess wasn't prepared for a party of our size, (20 people) like I said they had 2 weeks to get this set up. They tried to seat us in booths so that it would have been impossible to have conversations with each other. The wait staff was also inept, the waiters weren't keeping tabs on who had already ordered and mixed up almost all of the drinks, when we ordered or meals most ordered a baked potato, a few minutes later the waiter came back to inform us they were out of baked potato' 11:30 AM. The waiters forgot to bring condiments for our salads that we asked for numerous times, our steaks were road kill. It was in a word horrendous, the worst dining experience ever! I wrote to the manager about our experience a few days after the luncheon, as of now I still have not heard a peep from them. I and most of the other people that attended will not be back.

Unless you're a celebrity expect less...

As stated above, unless you're someone the restaurant recognizes, expect less than great service - tasleless food and upseeling to higher priced wines. It's a shame a place that could be so good obviously panders only to those whose names are know in Denver. I won't be back. There are many place in Denver that offer great food for the price and nobody needs to know who you are.

Lodo Bit

I was very happy with them when we went for Happy Hour, and got good meals. And I had planned to come back for a real full meal, but I've since re-thought that. I did the Lodo Bites tour, and was so disappointed with them. The whole point of the event was to showcase local restaurants' fare. So they are a steakhouse, famous for their steak, at least for their meat, hence the name ""Chophouse"". Their sample of fare was a cheese plate and fruit plate I could have put together in my kitchen. Not only was there no meat, but nothing that even took any effort, or did anything to showcase their fare at all. If they are going to put so little into the event, don't bother. It did more to damage my previously good opinion of them than to draw me back for more, or any of the six other people I was with.

A Disappointment

Last evening, I dined with a party of 10 people. I ordered filet mignon (8 ounce) and the filet mignon which was presented looked like a tiny replica of Texas. Therefore, I don't believe my steak was a filet mignon.

My girlfriend’s filet mignon looked like a filet mignon but it was burnt. She had ordered medium rare. Maybe my girlfriend and I ordered the wrong steaks; as I have heard it is difficult to prepare filet mignons.

The food items that were great: the white cheddar mashed potatoes and the corn bread. Needless to say, this was a disappointing dining experience.

Great Food!

We had a great time. The steak is the best in Denver! The service was attentive, but not overly bothersome.

Great food, Great service!

The food is tasty and the staff is friendly. I love their steaks and the portions are huge . You can really get enough food to have leftover lunch tomorrow. Great choice for a nice dinner with a loved one, business partner meetings, and just because.

great place for a steak

i have eaten here five or six time and food has good experience each time. Only was has my steak not been prepared to my liking. Service has always been good. If your going for steak get the porter house it is well worth the $$.

Food is good, everything else wasn't

So overall, this was a let down. I was expecting more for the $40+ I put out. The beer (Dry Stout), salad, cornbread and steak were great! Even though I ordered steak medium rare and it came rare -it was still a great steak! I would of sent it back, but it was 10pm and I was starved! Our waiter was nice, but rather slow and kinda inattentive. The Chophouse definitely fails on atmosphere - it is quite loud due to wood floors, brick wall and a ceiling consisting of exposed pipes. Thank God I was with friends and not on a date! Presentation of table and food was also dissapointing. I understand the rationale for putting a paper table cloth on top of the cloth one, but it has a tacky feel to it! Also, the actual plates themselves look liked something a diner would use. If I had paid $20 or so, I probably wouldn't be complaining, but this was not in line with my Midwestern sense of value....
