First time at this restaurant. Ordered a rib eye steak. Cost $31.00, you would expect for that price you would get a good piece of meat. I have had better at Danny's for about $12.00. They didn't seam to care much when I told them. The drinks were good but I will never set foot in there restaurant again. Not recommend by me.

I could get in to details about this place, but it's honestly not worth my time. The managers will tell you one thing on the phone, then when it comes time to live up to what they said, it's a no-go. The food is okay, the server we had was very sweet, but when we had a problem with our bill, the manager couldn't care less and did nothing. Obviously our business was not important to them, so no reason to think yours would be either.
Like I said, not worth my time or money...two times at this restaurant was two times too many, and I highly suggest going next door to Izakaya Den, Ototo, or Sushi Den, or ANY other South Pearl Street Restaurant!

Black Pearl! Ahh! I hosted a birthday party at the BP this evening and was greeted with a ""Please, make yourself at home""....which sounded nice until our group overhead the waitstaff openly disparaging our party with a ""How many tables are they going to sit at before they can just pick one??"" After our arbitrary welcome, our server was pretentiously (for no reason) rude and unapologetic for the following snafus: Bones in the fish, ignored drink refills, 30-minute wait between 1st and 2nd course, etc. Bottom line: The seasonal menu is wonderful, but the restaurant would never last if not for the location...I would recommend Black Pearl if you like being belittled by waitstaff on a Sunday. This is our second try at Black Pearl and for us, second-strike, you're out.

I have given the black pearl way to many chances to impress me, but the last 2 times I've been in have just been horrible expierences.
First the wine list is way to overpriced and the selection does not pair well with the food. I dont think you can get away with serving such nice wines with bad food!
The sevice was way off our server had B O, they were not prompt and I almost had to walk my undercooked food to the kitchen myself because our server was chatting it up with the buisser!
The Food so disopointing to see how this element in this place has fallen so far down.The food used to be good now its just sloppy and amateurly done. our whole table sent back our food from the BAD oysters to the undercooked poultry!

I have been to this restaurant 6 times total four times for drinks and appetizers and 2 for dinner. The drink and appetizer The bartender was friendly and made wonderful drinks for us (Mojitos)
As for the dining experience it leaves something to be desired. I have tasted 2 duck dishes that were disgusting and way too oily, the homemade tortellini wasn?t cooked completely, and the Salmon was over cooked. The WORST part about the dining experience was the wait staff; our waiter was snotty and gave other people preferential treatment while he left others with empty water glasses and snide remarks. Will not be returning for dinner.

I've been wanting to try this place for a few weeks now and finally had the opportunity on Wednesday. It was amazing! There was hardly anyone there, due to the DNC. The host was very gracious, service was great, ambiance was great! The food, is sort of tapas style, but a little bigger portions. All in all, one of the best nights out to a new restaurant in a long time. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!
First time Diner to Black Pearl Restaurant, UBER IMPRESSED!!!!!! recently moved to Wash Park neighborhood, and found beautiful independently owned new american bistro featuring organic, and fresh in-season locally grown ingredients. Recently moved to Denver from LA, and so impressed with Black Pearl Expirence had to tell evryone I know. In LA, a grass fed organic cut of beef, paired with an appetizer and dessert with wine is going to cost a minimum of 100.00 a person!!!! Not in Wash Park, Executive Chef Sean Huggard uses simple ingredients apllied to a creative menu where the ingedients stand alone for themselves, and represent the quality of the restaurant and the products that came to our table. Our server reccomended a three course tasting menu, that was 3 courses for 33 dollars featured as a weekly prefixed menu option. Unbeatable, My mother and I did the tasting menu, while two friends from NYC enjoyed organic grass fed ribeyes prepared ""Tuscan Style"" with a cedar planked smoked potato hash. We paired three courses with two bottles for 4 people. A crisp Sav Blanc for appetizers and Cheese platter, and one of the best California Pinot Noirs Ive had. My mother insisted on paying the bill, when our server dropped the check, my mother from Southern California thought, ""there must be some mistake, the bill is too cheap, maybe they left off a bottle of wine or something""???? We asked our server and he reassured us everything was accurate. Our bill was barely over 200 for four people!!! Mom was so impressed she left a 60% gratutity for our server, (Tall, handsome dark haired young man)I believe his name was Brad? This same quality meal/service in Southern California, twice the amount for sure. Great Job guys, Love the concept you have established (moderately priced casual fine dining)!!!
Recently visited The Black Pearl for 3rd time in last 3 months, I guess I am becoming a ""regular"". Happy hour features Oysters shucked to order, and all drinks from the bar. Already great start in my opinion, but my most recent expirence at the Black Pearl was definitely the most impressive. I brought 12 people from work to the restaurant for happy hour, and then we decided to stay for dinner. Not expecting them to be able to put us all at the same table for outdoor patio dinner service, we were suprised when the manager had arranged the entire community table for us outside. When I asked how he arranged to do that he says, everyone is a VIP at the Black Pearl. Needless to say I looked like a celebrity to my friends at the office, and it was only my 3rd time in. My business partner( ultra high maintence vegatarian) is still raving over his strawberry and Brie Gnocci, and the wine list! Thank you so much guys for creating such a special evening, everything was magnificent per usual.

The food at Black Pearl was worthy of five stars but the pushy waiter and the effort to sell beyond the menu made the evening distasteful enough that we won't be returning. The waiter said mulitiple times, to the point of intrusion, that the chef was 21, recently graduated from Johnson and Wales, and could do anything if you just told him which ""protein"" you wanted. When the bill came the ribeye entree price , already the most expensive on the menu, was escalated by 33 percent for the priviliege of giving the chef license. When questioned, the waiter's response was that it was an incredible piece ot meat and that it was only an $8 difference from the menu price, already priced, one would assume for ""an incredible piece of meat.."" There are too many alternatives in Denver now, with waiters and management that deal with candor, to patronize a restaurant that tries to maximize profits without being direct about pricing.

I have been to the Black pearl on a few different occasions, and had been impressed. They have this mac and cheese with truffle oil that was to die for. However, this experience was extremely disheartening. I coordinate a dinner group for between 8-15 people. We had eight people at the Black Pearl, and it was a disaster. Our waiter started out being friendly, but once we spoke with the manager about the unacceptable service and multiple errors on our bill he started giving us attitude. Here are specific examples of what went wrong.
1. One member of our party had a martini someone else wanted. Four martinis later, none of them were right. Unfortunately, we sent all of them back because...well...they weren't right!! The waiter seemed very courteous about the situation, but we caught him snickering about us in the bar and then he tried to charge us for all the drinks. When we brought this to the manager's attention, he lied to the manager, telling him that we drank them all. We absolutely did not.
2. Mac 'n Cheese was oily and tasted only of mushrooms and truffle oil. I love mushrooms and truffle, however, was so overpowering that it was practically inedible. I was really disappointed - I had this before and was delicious.
3. When we asked for our bill. The waiter said (in a rude, sarchastic tone ""Trust me, it's coming"". Like he couldn't wait to get us out of there. Another member of our party didn't realize I had asked for the bill, and she also asked for it; he replied ""I heard you the first time"". UNACCEPTABLE. In addition - we were charged for things we didn't order, charged for things that were supposed to come off the bill (martinis).
4. Once we had talked to the manager and expressed our discontent, the waiter proceeded to 'shoosh' us and scurry us out to the bar to pay, since they had just sat another party at the table next to us. I have a partially torn MCL and am wearing a brace - bad move!
