Kevin @ Deland Auto Parts is currently finishing my sixth engine and during the parts ordering process Kevin took the time to select the proper parts for this small block to provide optimum performance. Kevin has so far built a 347, a 302 , a 331, and a 427 and is finishing up another 331 . We have relied on Deland Auto Parts for many other projects such as reworking Heads , fitting intake manifolds to Heads , port matching , and other misc.projects. All of which were professionally done in a timely manner. We're glad to have found Kevin many years ago and rely on his expertise during the many phases of building a fine performance engine. I can recommend them and often do .
I have been doing business with Deland Auto Parts machine shop for 15+ years. I have had them do everything just the machine work, to complete engine rebuilds and assembly, and have always receiver a top notch job. Kevin is experienced, knowledgeable, and pays attention to detail... just the kind of person you would want handling an expensive set of aftermarket pistons, or crank, etc.
When I moved to this area, I didn't know who I could trust with this type of work. Fortunately, I found Deland Auto Parts, and Kevin.
BEWARE OF THIS PLACE! THEY WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU! We took our cylinder head to the shop to get pressure tested, they determined it was slightly warped so a simple resurfacing job would be needed. Not only did they replace the caps in the wrong places, but they also put it together BACKWARDS after resurfacing!! If my father who is an ASE certified mechanic didn't check it first and put the parts back in order who knows what would have happened, easy scam to try to get you to return and buy a new cylinder head! I will not be going back to this place (I don't even want to go back to complain, but I will certainly warn everyone I know) and I consider it a $100 lesson learned. I guess you get what you pay for!!!
By far the worst experience at a machine shop I ever had. I will try to not go into too much detail, but enough to warn people to stay away from this place at all costs. Terrible customer service/communication, employees are very rude and not personable. They had my cylinder head for over a month doing a valve job (Resurface valve seats, replace seals, decking the mating surface), after they had returned it I found that one of the valves was improperly machined. I opted to shim the valve buckets myself, however this has no bearing on the valve not being machined properly, the seat was set way too close to the edge near the valve face and it was too wide. I returned it to hopefully have them fix their mistake, and I was informed by the machinist that it should have never left the shop that way. They were to order a new intake valve and lap it. A little over two weeks passes by and I am finally able to get my cylinder head back from them. When I went to pick it up they tried to charge me for the new valve, the labor for lapping it and installing it, and shimming the valve buckets (which I had already done before I brought it back to them to fix the valve seat issue). I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone, if you are in the Deland/Orange City/Deltona area and are looking for a good place to go...you may have to venture out towards Winter Park.
