Overall
heartless people

I work at petland in Feb, Walton county shelter comes to us and sets up adoptions sometimes. Well, I found the most perfect kitty with one of their foster moms. I was told by not only her, but also another person from the shelter itself that this cat was completely ready for a home, and had clean bill of health; the person with by her paperwork was a no-show to the event and that should have been a warning sign, but I would've been lost without this cat! So I signed. Got my kitty home and happy. The next day as I'm looking her over and double checking things, I notice her ear are just completely filthy. They were INFESTED with mites. Now, my other cat has never had mites, and it was clear those had been there for at least a month. The only signs she was showing was occasional itching and shaking her head. I don't blame the foster mom, because if u don't know what to look for then as far as u know, there isn't anything to look for. She was trusting the shelter and shelter vet. I also got a call earlier that day, that they had forgotten her rabies shot. (She had been at the shelter since June, went up for adoption July 5th, and I adopted her late august) I decided to give them the benefit of a doubt and decided to make the drive up there. I was told I HAD to up there by 630 AM or the vet wouldn't do it. That is an hour drive. I did it thinking they would fix the mite issue because they gave me a sick cat. No. This was the complete opposite of what happened. I get there with the cat and my husband and the vets assistant said should be there shortly, we waited. He showed up and as he walked through the door of the building I smiled at him and he just blantently stared back. The assistant took my cat, (which I paid $55 for) and took her back. I was not allowed to see the vet. I asked her to tell him to look at her ears, I believe she has mites. When she brings my cat back she says that the vet says "she has fairly good ears".... Um what? It was very clear he hasn't looked. The ear were disgusting. The assistant said u will need to come back and see the receptionist later to make an appt on the situation. I was so mad I left and got a second opinion! My vet could see the mites without a microscope, they were so bad. I ended up having a $100 vet bill, even though Walton should've fixed this preexisting condition for me for free. I called them later in the day to talk to whoever was in charge. They told me there was nothing they could do except take the cat back. I asked for my adoption fee back and they said they would have to have the cat back. They were talking about this animal, this LIFE like it was a T-shirt from a retail store. It is sick and its clear these people only care about money. This was a situation easily fixed if they knew what they were doing and had any kind of compassion. Not to mention if they let a poor animal go with something so fixable for so long, and missing a RABIES SHOT for three months is a good example of how I'm sure they take care of a lot of their Other animals. Their customer service is so not there I couldn't believe the phrases coming out of their mouths. I'm glad that I could save my cat, but I feel awful for any other animals getting neglected.
