FRESH SEAFOOD FROM BOSTON, ALASKA, HAWAII

Business Description
Ohio's premier Seafood Restaurant is located in the Historical Oregon District off the Southeast edge of Downtown Dayton. A beautiful 32 foot Mahogany bar graces the wall inside of Jay's unique restaurant which was originally an 1862 Grist Mill. Fresh fish arrives four times weekly from Boston, Massachusetts; Portland, Oregon; Florida and Lake Erie, Hawaii. All beef is top Angus from Chicago and is cut on the premises. Jay's outstanding wine selection has earned the only entry from southwest Ohio in the "Best of Award of Excellence" list presented by the prestigious magazine, Wine Spectator. Delicious desserts are all made exclusively in our own bakery to complement a wonderful dining experience. Jay's sells fresh fish uncooked at retail prices. We have Friday night 4-8 and Saturday afternoon 1-6 wine tastings. We also have monthly wine dinners/luncheons and beer dinners.
Business History
In 1882, James Jacob Ritty opened the Pony House Restaurant. He commissioned wood carvers from Barney and Smith Car Works to turn 5,400 pounds of Honduras Mahogany into a bar. The fruit of their labors is the bar you now see standing in Jay's. The building on South Jefferson Street that became Mr. Ritty's Pony House Restaurant was previously a school of French and English for young ladies. You can see a large picture of the school on the southeast wall of Jay's. The saga of the Pony House continues, when in 1967, Mr. Ritty's bar was about to fall prey to the wrecking ball. Mr. William H. Eicher of United Moving & Storage, Inc. of Dayton preserved its heritage by photographing, removing, and storing the famous bar, enabling it to be completely reassembled and again take its place as the important piece of Dayton history that it will always be.

My husband and I went to Jay's for a romantic dinner and wow, did they deliver! The atmosphere was fantastic, service was phenomenal and best of all, the food... indescribable! I have never been so excited about a restaurant in my life! Enjoy!

Good Seafood for Ohio

Considering your in Ohio, the seafood was fabulous! Down side is that there are way too many tables, parking is horrible and you get an attitude if you don't make reservations.

King Crab Legs are the BEST!

I have always had the best Crab legs in town. They are great they come cracked and wrapped in a hot cloth. The service was great, everyone was very nice and the witress was wonderful. Lobster was good as well. The deserts are very good.
