Didn't get to go. I had a limited time deal fro buy one get one free but I had to go before June 25th. Tried to go late in the afternoon after a funeral I had to go to in the area but the gates were closed. Ended up spending the money for nothing and wasn't able to take my little cousin as I promised. Always next year I suppose. Only reviewing because they sent me an email to tell them about my visit.
We rented a camper which was absolutely disgusting. It was filthy and the cushions were stained and smelled bad. The table was peeling at the edges and my granddaughter cut her finger on it. Some Lights didn't work and the bathroom fan was broken. We have camped there numerous times as a group of 30 people and never before had such a run down camper. The park was understaffed, one person had to run 2 kiddie rides making us have long waiting times. Several concession stands weren't open and some closed early due to staffing. Three times over the 4th of July week we waited in long lines only to be told the rides broke down. All in all I feel Darien Lake has really run down from what it used to be. It's a shame
We had a wonderful stay for a weekend. We had received an advertisement for Pittsburgh area residents. The hotel was great and is so close to the amusement park. We enjoyed walking from our room to the park. It was also reasonably close to Niagara Falls if you wanted to plan a day trip.
My husband, 2 teenage sons, and I had a great vacation at Darien. We spent 4 days - 3 nights at the lodge. So convenient and reasonably priced as lodging includes park admission. The lodge has every convenience - met all our needs- the people / staff are friendly and helpful. The park is clean and pretty; has a variety of rides. Only 1 ride had miserable attendants - the rest were ok and ride of steel had great - helpful attendants. Food is reasonable priced - Drinks are NOT. As Darien serves beer, they do need to work on the ID process (gues over 21 should receive a special bracelet so they don't need to carry id)
Darien offers lots to do and visiting the campsites (soccer goals) was a bonus for us.
This at one time was a fun place to go. Now it seems old and a little tired. It almost seems like no one cares. The rides are always breaking down, it takes too long to board an attraction, not because of lines but poor traffic flow handling and having only 1 coaster per track etc. look at the boarding station of Viper and look how much it needs just simple painting. There are tons of these little things that once again makes you fell no one cares.
When you go to a theme park with a large group of family (24 of us) you hope for the best, but brace for the worst.....what we experienced at NY States premier theme/water park was just plain fun and relaxation. Cabins and RV were fantastic, park was a riot and having a "home base" so close to the park made the trip both fun and relaxing. Sitting on our cabin porch in the shade with a nice breeze, or cooking dinner on the grill at night all added up to a nice getaway, kids would wander back and forth between the cabins and the park and every now and then, we would all go together to catch a ride on something fun or just explore the park. All in all, a fun three days that we look forward to doing sometime again. The park and resort are all, thought out well and designed with families in mind, if you get the chance, spend a few nights, you won't regret it!!!
