A native of Danville, Derek graduated from San Ramon Valley High School in 1991. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Nutrition from UC Davis in 1995. In 1998 he graduated first in his class with a Master's degree in Physical Therapy from UC San Francisco. Shortly thereafter he joined San Ramon Valley Physical Therapy. Realizing that his education was not finished, he attended many continuing education seminars over the next several years which culminated in him becoming certified by the American Physical Therapy Association as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics (OCS) in 2002. His certification was awarded after demonstrating advanced knowledge in the field of Orthopedic Physical Therapy. He lives in San Ramon with his wife Valerie who practices dentistry in Danville.

Charissa graduated from CSU Fresno in 2004 with her Masters in Physical Therapy. She has spent most of her career in outpatient settings working with orthopedic and sports injuries. Having performed ballet since she was a child, she brings a unique perspective to injury rehabilitation. In 2010 she became a Certified Pilates Instructor (CPI) after completion of a year long course with Polestar Pilates, and has been able to add this unique form of exercise into the care of her patients. In 2012 she became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) having demonstrated advanced knowledge in the field of orthopedic physical therapy. While earning her Bachelors degrees in Biological Sciences and Dance at UC Irvine she worked as a student trainer which culminated in her becoming a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). She has also danced professionally with Oakland Ballet, Black Diamond Ballet, and Anastasis Ballet Company.

Is a San Ramon native who earned her B.S. In Health Sciences at UCLA. She then went on to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Northwestern University. She moved back to her hometown because she wanted to help patients in the community where she grew up. She desires to make an impact on those she treats by emphasizing patient education and creating an individualized plan for each patient. She enjoys working with all age groups and a wide spectrum of diagnoses, including post-surgical, orthopedic injuries, and neuro rehabilitation. Her interests outside of physical therapy include boxing, hiking, traveling, and spending time outdoors with her husband and two dogs.
Manual Therapy
On your first visit, a licensed physical therapist will do an evaluation. This is a thorough assessment of overall posture, range of motion, strength, flexibility, and mobility. After the evaluation, your therapist will discuss their findings with you and then develop a rehabilitation program to help attain the goals you will set together to get back to optimal function. This program will include how your therapist will facilitate improvement (manual therapy, exercises, and modalities if necessary) as well as what you can do on your own.
