I have been to the Bangkok Thai restaurant around the corner many, many times and decided this weekend to try something new. Unfortunately that was a very bad decision this time because I decided to go to Banana Island. Comparatively not only was Banana Island a waste of money but it literally made me sick. I'm not sure how to give it zero stars above, but that's the real rating
This restaurant had a comfortable atmosphere to hang out with friends... but the food was horrible! Specifically - the food was bland, there was so much oil it made me sick, the shrimp were dry and tasted like they had been frozen for awhile and the vegetables were clearly either from the freezer or a can. If I go out to a restaurant and pay good money I expect good flavor and fresh food.

This place is horrible!
Terrible long wait, mostly teenagers, not enough waiting area to sit.
The waiters keep trying to push appetizers and drinks on you. They charge for every coke refill.
The food is horrible. They do have a flashy roti made in center of room for show but it was heavy and greasy, not like its supposed to be. But worst of all the food was horrible, had to have them take the fish away because it tasted foul, but they were rude about, keep endlessly repeating how wonderful it was like they didn't understand a word of plain English, then the poor service after that became non-existant, to top it off they even refuse refund on the stinking fish.
Can not understand how this place gets even a single star rating except that you have to give at least one star or this silly citysearch will not post it. Will never go back !!!

This place is way over rated. The service was very slow, everything from taking our order, serving the food, refilling water, taking desert order, bringing the bill, everything was slow. Had to practically beg for water. Instead of providing free refills of coke like most places they charge for every glass of coke. The tea was cold. We ordered live fish, it was horrible! We practically live on fresh fish, 5 or 6 times a week and this is the worst fish we have ever had, we had to send it back. The did not offer to replace it and of course, they would never consider comping it. The egg plant was very greasy. We will never go back.

After hearing only good stuff about Banana Island, I had to try it. I ordered what people on citysearch had suggested which are the roti something (curry with Indian pancake/bread) and pineapple fried rice. The roti could have been better if it was spicy. Not too spicy just a little bit. The pineapple fried rice was really cool because it is served in a pineapple. However, I didn't taste anything. I barely tasted the pineapple and I just mainly tasted rice. There are a lot of other stuff on the menu for me to try so I would go back there. I probably just ordered the wrong items.

My family are regulars here.
When we step in, we usually have pretty prompt seating (at our usual table). I love this place because they mix up all kinds of good Asian food.. and I love variety!
What do I recommend? Definitely start with the roti cani. It's what the guy is flipping and spinning in the middle of the restaurant. That guy has skills because roti can be hard to be prepare. Then I like the eggplant w/ shrimp and the sizzling beef. yummmm.. Also, the pineapple fried rice is really great (it also is served inside of a cut out pineapple).
And dessert... I always get the FBI. (Friend Banana with Ice Cream). The way they make it is Thai style, dipped in batter and fried.
The food is definitely affordable and the service is really great. They always remember my parents and we are always treated really nice. Thats why we always come back!

My Mom and I went to this Singapore/Malaysian restaurant on a Sunday at 11:45am. Though it was crowded, we did not need to wait for a table. We ordered: roti canal (the indian pancake $3.50), satay chicken and beef ($7.50), pineapple fried rice ($8.95), sarang seafood ($13.95) and ice kacang ($3.95). We were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of the pineapple fried rice which was served in a carved-out pineapple, topped with a tiny umbrella and served on a dish resembling a boat. The sarang seafood was: seafood, veggies, mushrooms and cashew in an edible nest made of taro. This was a refreshing change from Hong Kong-style Chinese food. The service was friendly and responsive.

I went there for dinner with a friend last night and the service was unbelievably bad. My friend asked for recommendation since she's a vegetarian, and he just pointed out what's available for vegetarians. Then the waitresses just dropped our food on the table as if it was something she wanted to get rid off. Then the food, simple seafood and vegetarian fried rice, tasted old, bland, and half-cooked. ON my black list now.

This is a good restaurant to go to as a group. Try not to go there as a couple on the weekend especially for dinner, it's a little too noisy. The food was good and the price was fair. Service was slow, but you can't expect much from a busy asian restaurant, just go for the food!
