I do not recommend using Tiki Trips and I wish I had read some reviews before we engaged her. She was very nice and helpful until we paid her. After we paid I didn't hear from her at all. When I called to book the honeymoon, she said prices had gone way up and blamed me for not following up with her sooner. Dena explained that since she had not heard from me she assumed we had booked somewhere else after we had already paid her $500 to put a package together!
When she did send over pricing, it was way out of our price range. When we pointed that out to her, she said that package was not a good deal and SHE wouldn’t even purchase it. Leading me wonder, why are you trying to sell us packages that she knows are not good deals!?
It is very hard to get in contact with Dena as she doesn't seem to work normal business hours. I have found her to be very unresponsive and down-right rude at times.
I will not be using Dena to plan my honeymoon or any trip in the future!
Hope this review saves another bride to be from the same headaches I've encountered.

I do not recommend using Tiki Trips. I could write pages and pages detailing our experience. We chose Tiki Trips for our wedding in 2009. Thanks to friends and family this was an amazing experience. However, it took much patience on their end. Similar to other reviews, Dena was less than cordial once payments were received. We were told by her that we would get a video of our wedding. With this statement we didn't concern ourselves with being sure someone was available to film. She used our special day to film for her ""upcoming tv show"" that was almost two years ago. We cooperated and did all that was asked from her. Even allowing cameras in during some very private moments. On a group trip during the vacation the party waited over 45 minutes for her so that we could head back to our hotel. What could have been a great day ended in frustration and anger. Two years later and we are told we're not able to have a copy of the video that was shot for our wedding. We were lucky enough to have a ""made in Jamaica"" baby who will be one year old in February. I'd love to share some live footage with her but will never be able to. Please do not book with Tiki Trips.

A big thank you is in order for the folks at Tiki Trips for protecting us! We were lucky to have them on our side when we had a flight cancellation going out because of the hurricane. One call to them got us protected, they reaccomodated us immediately on another flight when the airline was telling us there was nothing available. Our trip would have been ruined if we didn't have Tiki Trips to call. Instead of a disaster, we had an outstanding vacation, and we totally enjoyed the chauffeured car just for us for our transportation to and from the hotel instead of a big shuttle bus that we used to do. Now we get the difference of an agent vs the internet. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Awesome trip! We booked our trip with Tiki Trips this summer, they were nice ladies to work with, they gave great advice, and our trip turned out better than if we'd booked it ourslves. We followed their suggestions and didn't book what we thought we were gonna do (and they were right, the place we were gonna go sucked, we passed by it). Our resort where we stayed that they recommended was awesome and the food was even better, drinks were too, so was the beach. We're now fans, will call these ladies again for our next trip, you should too, they'll treat you right- thanks

Was looking forward to a long awaited vacation and was extremely disappointed. Once payment was received, the response time was slow for calls and emails. Dena McDonald was very rude, and her assistant appeared to just cover for her mishaps. You would be much better off booking a trip without her assistance. Wish I could say something pleasant about the experience, but cannot....sorry. I do not think this person is qualified to be a business owner.

We've used Tiki Trips several times over the past 4 years: our honeymoon in Italy, quick trips to Mexico, and a family reunion trip to Hawaii. Each time was a great experience, we got a fair price and received everything we paid for. Their advice is always right on. We also appreciated their payout plan, very convenient if you are on tight finances. We will be back!

Wife and I booked our honeymoon with the owner Dena. We have never really used a travel agency before, but thought it would relieve some pressure from all of the other wedding planning. Everything was great with Dena at first. She called us back quickly, and was always extremely polite and helpful until.......
The moment she got our first payment that locked us in with the company, everything went to crap. The friendly service and prompt call back times disappeared. Any help we needed from then on was like pulling teeth to get, if we received a call back at all.
Even friends and family couldn't believe what a grump she was to deal with when they tried to book events for us as wedding gifts.
We were fed loads of false crap about where we were going and what to do. We were told our destination had no black sand beaches left, although we found one by accident on our FIRST DAY there.
The main thing that really did it for me was something we found out once we arrived at our destination and should be a no-brainer for anyone with any shred of common sense.
Upon arriving, we realized that our ENTIRE honeymoon was booked under my wife's MAIDEN NAME. Ridiculous. When a couple is married and on a honeymoon, it is their first chance to be recognized as Mr. and Mrs. (insert name). Unfortunately not for us. How thick can someone be to book an entire honeymoon in the wife's maiden name?
Easy to say that we will never recommend this company, and when asked our opinion, we will give a much deserved fair warning.
In a industry where customer service should be top priority, this company doesn't have a clue.

We started using Tiki Trips a few years ago for our destination wedding to Jamaica and our honeymoon to Hawaii. They sure KNOW their stuff!!! They have been great to us from day one, and we've booked many more trips since then to Mexico and other pretty places. We trust their advice and they have been friendly and helpful every time we travel, not just to us but to our friends too. We wouldn't think of calling anyplace else for our trips. Thank you to the Tikis for always making our vacations great ones--

Tiki Trips has pulled through for my business more times than I can count in the last three years. I am a high end computer consultant billing out at $200.00 per hour specializing in Microsoft products from New York City. I want everything done in a New York minute and I want it done right. No excuses. My job requires that I travel for my clients, and most of the time it is 'last minute' travel. When my client has a mission critical server that is down, they need it fixed right away - not next week. My clients pay me top dollar...excuses are not an option. Using Orbitz or Travelocity does not work for my business model. I need to make sure my flight, hotel and car rental is booked and that I won't get bumped, screwed or get that stupid blank look on the hotel clerks face when they say to me 'I can't find your reservation, did you book on the web?'.... I already tried the Orbitz thing and all is got was: incorrect flight info, no hotel room waiting for me, wrong car rental and angry clients. Tiki Trips managed to find flights that I couldn't find on the web, put together package deals that saved me money and when I had a question or problem, a human voice that will actually answer the phone. I will continue using the services of Tiki Trips because it seem to be the only place that gets it right.

We booked with Dena at Tiki Trips as our travel agent for our destination wedding to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. We were referred to her because she was supposed to be an expert in group destination bookings. BEWARE. We put a $500 deposit and signed a contract with her, thinking we would get her full attention as our travel agent. Dena promised we would have an amazing website, travel dates and times, and the cost of the trip by a certain time. We called numerous times to find out why our pricing wasn't available and why our website hadn't been posted and were greeted with an assistant that Dena was not there and would call us back. She does call you back but expect hundreds of excuses on why things are not done. We got nervous when our website was not completed by the day she promised and when I threatened to go with another agent, she got right on it. We became very nervous and started looking for reviews which I had previously never found prior to hiring her. I found a review about her company and the experience another couple had, that mirrored my experience with Tiki Trips. I became scared and e-mailed Dena with my concerns. Instead of telling me what great customers she had, she began saying horrifying things about the couple in a four page e-mail regarding their character.
I quickly found another travel agent and asked her for my $500 back which was denied. I highly recommend going through a different travel agency to book any trip, unless you want to be out $500 and get terrible customer service.

We booked Dena at Tiki Trips (the owner) because we had traveled with one of her groups before and everything ran seamlessly. However, this time was a completely different story. We booked Dena as our travel agent for our destination wedding (in Playa Del Carmen, MX) because she is a self professed expert on the area and the hotels and since we had a great time in Playa the previous time we travelled through her service, we believed her.
We knew that we would have a group of about 80-120 people, so there was incentive for her to work with us (in the end, we had 82 people travel to Mexico, only 12 booked with her - and all of them/us regretted it). Dena does NOT work normal business hours - try to reach her after 6pm and maybe she'll answer, otherwise, you'll get an assistant that will have to call you back. Don't believe for a second that you will get a straight answer at the time of your call. Expect hundreds of excuses - they are endless with excuses. Items that she promises will and do take much longer than anticipated and you will probably have to call multiple times to get an answer. If you're leaving town, you will not receive your itinerary, tickets or packet of information until about 5 days before departure.
One of the people in our group did not have transportation from the airport to the hotel - this is a BIG problem when you're in Mexico! Another's reservations were booked for the wrong days. Prices vary each time you talk to them, so make sure to keep all documentation of pricing (she tried to charge us for ""group booking"" even though she told us many, many times that she could not book our trip as a ""group""). She made a destination wedding website for us that had no less than 1 million words on it on one very long page (we never used it or showed it to anyone). The list of complaints not only by us and our experience, but also by the others that used her is too many to list.
Beware of using Tiki Trips.
