If you're eating in at Sal's, great. When the pizza is piping hot, it is delicious. But do NOT call Sal's for delivery. I read the horse-and-carriage review and decided to take a chance anyway. Big mistake. My pizza came after an hour and it was FREEZING COLD. Freezing. When I called Sal's to report the problem, as well as the fact I was going to review it on this site (and that others had the same complaint on this site), the guy on the phone could not have cared less. So from a delivery standpoint, I wouldn't rate it high on service or quality.

I ordered a pizza from Sal's on a Sunday afternoon. It took 1 hour and 52 minutes exactly. I had to call them 3 times to ask where my pizza was. I had heard good things about their pizza quality, etc... and maybe that is the case in house at their location on Wycliff, but this pizza was terrible. It was cold, of course, the pizza dough was of poor consistency, meaning that the entire pizza was like eating a piece of crust. They put half the amount of cheese they should have put on it (and I'm not a big cheese guy). To top it all off, they cut the pizza so unevenly that i had pieces that were literally half the size of other pieces on the pie... normally this wouldn't bother me, but it was the icing on the cake.
Perhaps I might try this place in house because some people absolutely swear by it, but I will never order another pizza from Sal's ever again. I suggest you look elsewhere if you don't want to drive.

decent pizza for Texas but coming from NY its hard to find something better. Don't get delivery unless you want cold pizza and a order taker who is rude and thinks he is doing you a favor by selling you a pie. I live a few blocks down from Sal's and it took over an hour to get my pie delivered and when I called to complain that it was cold, he said, ""what do you want me to do about it"".
I rated them low just because of that poor service.

I decided to give Sal's a try after reading it was voted Dallas' ""Best Pizza 2006"" by the readers here. After reading the reviews, I had some preconcieved notions about Sal's. From the reviews I expected the restaurant to be a bit smaller than it was, and I expected a ""Pizza Naazi"" to work there. Neither was the case. The restaurant was about average size - not small but not big either. I didn't feel the tables were necessarily ""packed closely together."" And concerning the service, one reviewer described the service as ""rude"" and someone else described it as ""rough"". The waiter we had was friendly and we didn't experience any negativity. It was the slow time of the day, so I guess they had no reason to be on edge. However, there were 2 guys standing in the workers area that sounded like New Yorkers. They were talking loud and non-stop for about 10 or more minutes. So I can see how those with that type of personality can come across as ""rough"". Us Texans tend to talk slower and more relaxed. I figured one of the guys must of been the owner because he afterwards got into a big, expensive car and drove off.
Anyway, back to the pizza. Anytime anything is voted #1 you expect it to be ""out of this world"". This is not the case with Sal's pizza. Yes, I would say they have good pizza, but not great pizza. I will say, however, I WAS impressed with their crust. Not too hard like some crusts are and not to doughy either. Just right. However, it's downfall for me was the taste. No, it didn't taste bad. The problem was... it didn't really have much taste at all. I expected some zing or zip to it, but there was none. I just had a 1 topping, hambrger pizza, so maybe if I had added more toppings then it might've different. I don't know. Still, I expected more taste.
To sum it up: Good crust, average pizza.
