Not sure this place is clean

Extremely rude staff and questionable cleanliness. Good thing there is a Wallgreens close by to pick up some Pepto.... if you know what I mean.

I love Louie's!!

This was a family affair. Husband birthday and Mom birthday. Six of us arrived a little after 5pm on this Saturday night. Got a parking spot up front. Walked in and got the booth in the corner in the back as we wanted. Ordered drinks. Our waitress was Jennifer. Ordered soup and salads. We each got a different soup. They were all great. The caesar salad was excellent. Ordered five different pizza's and The Don. All Fabulous! We each had a different pie. All good!!! Perfect evening. GREAT food, GREAT service, GREAT place. Thank you Louies'!! Love ya!

Awful Experience

We saw this restaurant featured on one of the food channels so we decided to drive an hour to check it out. We waited for about 15 minutes to get a table after we gave our name to the hostess who was seemed overwhelmed and had sweat all over her face. It was disgusting to look at especially going to the restaurant for the first time. The restaurant was packed and there was no waiting area other than standing in the hallway of the entrance. The hostess approached us and we thought we were going to be seated, but that was not the case. She informed us that the owner was not allowing us to eat there because my 17 year old son was wearing a sleeveless Under Armour shirt. She explained that the owner does not allow customers to eat at the restaurant if they come in wearing tank tops and that's been their policy for the last 20 years. I told her my son is not wearing a tank top but rather a $35 dollar shirt that is just showing his biceps. I was thinking why would there be a problem for my 17 year old son wearing this nice shirt at this ex-gas station/dive bar/restaurant. After hearing what the hostess said, my son wanted nothing to do with the restaurant and wanted to leave. So we left hungry. On the hour drive back home, I thought I would give them a call and give them a piece of my mind. I called, asked for the manager or owner, and I got speak with an elderly lady who said she was the manager. She said the owner could not come to the phone because he was working behind the bar and he was supper busy. I explained our experience to the manager and she was sorry and told me she would have been happy to loan us a tee-shirt with sleeves. I asked her why the hostess didn't give us the same option when we were there and she said she didn't know why. I still requested to get a call back from the owner to get an explanation as why he refused service to us when it was clear that my son was not wearing a tank top. Never got a call back and we are never going back. So the lesson we learned and want to pass on is to make sure you check the dress code at this ex-gas station/ dive bar/restaurant before you drive a long distance to eat at Louie's in East Dallas.

Absolutely horrible

Words can't begin to describe the awful experience I just had at Louie's. If there was a Zero stars option, I would choose it. We sat down at our table at 7:15, and did not receive our pizzas until 9:40. When they did Finally arrive, all of them were cold, one was totally incorrect, and one was ""delayed"" by another 5 minutes. We had asked several times- during our TWO HOUR wait- about the pizzas, and were told that they were ""on the way"". When we spoke with the owner (a grey-bearded guy behind the bar) and explained our situation, he literally started to shout at us, asking ""what do you do for a living?!"" and ""don't question how I run my restaurant when it's busy"". What makes this experience so dissapointing is that this used to be one of our favorite restaurants- my husband and I have been eating there for over ten yeards. Needless to say- we won't return.

Best pizza and great ambiance

This is a classic dive bar, but it has some of the best pizza in Dallas. It can get very crowded on a Friday or Saturday night so I always go during the week. The servers are not charming, but they are great to regulars and the bartenders are nice guys too.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!!!!

We waited for 15 minutes for a waitress to come to the table to take a drink order, took another 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Our salad took another 15 minutes, another 20 for the food to arrive. Took 10 minutes from the time we requested a refill on the drink for it to arrive. Meal finished we requested the check, that took another 15 minutes. It was the WORST SERVICE we have ever experienced.

A Great New Find !!

OMG, we sooooo just loved our first experience at Louie's. On the recommendation of a good friend, and of course, other Yelp reviews, BF and I have been dying to give Louie's a try, salivating over the thought of a Greek Salad and their acclaimed pizza.

We were not disappointed. Arrived around 1700 on Saturday and were promptly seated, and greeted by friendly server, Tiffany. She could have not been more attentive. Drinks arrived quickly, order taken and we settled back with our libations to enjoy the evening. And thus we did! The Greek Salad, which we split, was delicious; more than enough for two. The dressing was so tasty, could have licked my bowl.

Our pizza, with pepperoni, black olives, garlic, tomatoes & onions, was possibly some of the best pizza we have enjoyed anywhere. Typically, I am a fan of a thicker crust, but Louie's changed my mind. The crust....to die for! And a large was REALLY large. The sauce was soooo yummy, toppings were generous, and it came out piping hot. We took half of it back to our hotel for a late night snack. (We were staying at the Melrose for a quick getaway from our daily Dallas house routines!) Pizza was completely gone before midnight !! Almost even better cold!

Unlike several of other reviews, our service was outstanding; quick, efficient and very friendly. We were in and out under an hour and by the time we left, the place was packed with folks waiting at the door to be seated.

A wonderful first time experience and impression. Can't wait to make plans to venture out of North Dallas and go back to see Louie down South !!!!

Great place for a bad experience

This place has always been a risk. Every time I have been to Louies you are unsure if you will be mistreated or simply served. NEVER expect to be welcomed because this is definitely NOT cheers. I have been to Louies numerous times over the years and I have chosen never to eat there again. Occasionally we choose to order take out but still anxious that they will be a--holes. Like their food hate the place!

Domino's Pizza at 3 times the price

Louie's Pizza is a rip off joint that came up with some type of scheme to get reviews claiming they have the Best Pizza in Dallas, DON'T BELIEVE IT, we bought a ""large"" pepperoni, which was smaller that most medium pizzas and had about 10 pieces of pepperoni. You can also buy a can of domestic beer for 5 bucks while you wait 20 minutes past the time they tell you your pizza will be ready.

Not even close

Service was slow and not friendly at all, but not rude either. Food was very average or below and our party got their food at different times. Really, don't waste your time.

Bad experience-very rude wait staff

Went to this place for the first time ever after my girlfriend saw it on tv and I have to say I will never go again.
First off, we get there and sit at a table next to the tv because I want to watch the game, our waitress comes right over and immediately tell us, doesnt' ask but tells us, you need to move to a two top so this table can be used by bigger parties. I have no problem with that but when they tell me and not ask me, then I got a problem. Pizza was way too greasy, and after my girlfriend got the rest to go we waited 15 minutes for our check. Had a chance for a customer for life, now I will let everyone know to not go there.

Good If You Are In The Area

We were in Dallas from the 'burbs and went to Louie's for dinner. We had heard great things about it. The food was good....not great. All our entrees came out at different times. One person was done before the other 2 were served. After waiting at least 15 minutes for the other 2 entrees to arrive, they came and one was cold, the other one was warm, but not hot.

We enjoyed their clam chowder and their greek salad. Both were outstanding. The pizza was great for thin crust. We prefer a thicker and chewier crust, but we knew before we went the type of pizza they had. The pizza sauce was outstanding. The meatball sub was good, would have been better if it had arrived hot, not just warm. The chicken and broccoli was perfectly cooked and yummy....but ice cold. We couldn't understand why both weren't hot, since we waited over 15 minutes for it after the other things were served.

The service is only fair and sort of friendly. I don't think it is the waitresses fault, though. Fact is, they are running their butts off for way too many tables. They are also required to bus the tables. We don't understand why such a busy and successful place won't hire a busboy. It is ridiculous to put so much on the few waitresses and still expect exemplary service. We were in the bar area and there were only 2 servers for over 20 tables. And some of these tables were huge parties. I will say that a smile and some compassion goes a long way with them. People that were rude, entitled and demanding got the same back. We were much nicer and we received much better service.

Would we go back? Maybe. But it isn't worth a special trip.

Hey! Where was Luz when Chris was being showcased?

That's messed up JR. You did'nt even have the face to give Luz his dues on National TV. You know for a fact the recipe for the ""Grill Marinade"" was his! Instead you said you got it from ""Some Guy""! You took the credit for ""that guy"" & who knows what else? I worked in that kitchen for 10+years( Oh, for Louie, to be exact it was 11 years). You should be ashamed of yourself Chris C. Louie...I know you lied to everyone after I gave you my two weeks notice. I heard from a worthy source that it took you a month to fess-up that i actually gave you notice. Your word is as thin as your pizza crust!!!!!!!!!!!

top notch!

the female staff are top notch, plus they have to deal with a packed house of mostly new customers who need to be educated/informed on what all louies has to offer. please give them a break and be patient, most important tip them well!! they are working extra hard to serve us the best thincrust pizza in dallas!! with people standing in line 2 get a table or a barstool. trust me they are slammed.
my father who lives in calfornia saw the the tv show last month and called/told me he wanted to go and try the pizza when he was coming to dallas the following week . my father, wife and i did just that. my wife and I have been to louies twice a week ever since!! the pineapple/ham/onion pizza is out of this world. treat yourself to a cesar salad and a pint or two of the grolsh beer to go along with your food.
the barkeepers are mature and knowledgeable and know how to make a damm good martini ! even better they rember your name and your drink of choice.
i am a 38 years old and i do not wear a suit to my job . my wife is 40 and is a manger of a deli and we fit right in with the bar crowd at louies .
part of me does not want to publish my review cause i fear wating in line to get a tabel could even take longer but the service ,food and drinks are so above the rest that i had 2 share my point of view. i must give away what was giving to me in order to keep what i got.
2 avoid the long waiting time try coming to louies

The Best pizza in town

My Girlfriend and I saw this on Diners drive-ins and Dive's since we are huge fan's of that show. we made weekend plans to try it out.

I spent the latter half od the week in anticipation of or trip to Louie's not really knowing what to expect, I was excited to be going none the less.

Saturday arrives and during the early evening we make it to louis's We arrived around 5:30pm and although the kitchen wasn't open they allowed us to be seated. As I looked around you get a sense of Nostalgia of the mid 80's if you look at the decor. Not very fancy but fun. One of the fun things about Loui's is interacting with the other patron's. The food here is so good that people really don't realize that the place is actually a bar.

So we ordered a large pizza, loaded baked potato's, ceaser salad (a small) and the grilled pork chop. When I tell you that it all was exceptional I say that because I can't think of any other way to describe how much we enjoyed ourselves.

That small ceaser salad feed both of us it is nice size, however it is very well put together and taste great I wish I had one right now. The potato's were great loaded with toppings and cooked just the way you would want a baked potato cooked. When the couple next to us came in and sat down and saw how much we enjoyed our pork chop they ordered the same thing and this is no regular run of the mill pork chop this is nice and thick with good seasoning and grilled to perfection. I would have never expected a chop that good in a place that serve's pizza. The pizza was perfection no other way to describe it. Thin crust (which is what I love and the way I think all pizza should be) fresh toppings, and a sauce to die for. This is without a doubt one of if not the best pizza I have ever tasted. What I couldn't stuff into my mouth at Louie's I practically finished as soon as I got home. No wait there was a little left over which I ate the very next morning for breakfast.

Now I have read some of these reviews and I have seen where there are complaints about the wait staff. They aren't rude or unkind. They are very attentive. What I liked about them is that they made themselves available to you they didn't interrupt your dining experience, and remember this is a bar. In my openion I give the wait staff an A+++ because i wouldn't have enjoyed myself as much if they were in my face every 5 minutes.

We enjoyed ourselves and we will be returning soon. Very soon. Maybe even later today. If you are reading this stop reading get your significant other and head to louie's right now. You won't regret it. It is a great experience and a hidden treasure for the Dallas Metroplex community

Louie's ???

We saw Louie's on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Went to try it last weekend. Greek salad was Ice Burge Lettuce with vinegar and oil. Pizza was way to sweet and the crust was very soggy. Not a good experience for us. Nothing like it was described. Service was slow

Mean Happy Hour

This review would be 5-stars if it wasn't for the wait staff at Louie's. The food has never disappointed and the martinis are magnificent. The atmosphere is unpretentious and comfortable. However, I am consistently put off by the aggressive behavior of the servers. A group of us from work enjoys the occasional happy hour, and we went to Louie's for the past three. Without fail, the nasty waitresses have sabotaged an otherwise brilliant experience. Even though we are young, attractive professionals in our 30s, by the time we pay the check and leave, we are made to feel like unwanted orphans, heads hanging low as we trudge out of the bar, browbeaten and worn down by our unbelievably bitter bar maids. It has become laughable how unhappy these loveless modern day charwomen seem. No matter how much money we spend, or how nicely we behave, we are not welcome there. We can take a hint. So long Louie's. Call me when your happy hour isn't so mean.

Fantastic Pizza and Dive Bar

It doesn't look like much on the outside, but once you walk in it's a great experience from beginning to end for any person who enjoys the unfussy and relaxed places in Dallas. The tables are small, but cozy in any spot, and the bar brings you back in time. First, don't snub the fact that they serve beer in a can because they give you a nicely chilled glass to go with it, and who cares about the can anyway? We ordered 2 small pizzas and a large Ceasar salad for 4 people and it was the perfect amount. I have to say the Ceasar salad is one of the best in Dallas with it's robust and extremely fresh flavor. The pizza has some of the best crispy rustic thin crust I've ever had, and the slices are perfect because they are small. For someone who loves to try a little bit of everthing, it's perfect! All in all, don't be fooled by the outer shell. Just walk inside, sit down, enjoy an unpretentious beer, and a delicious, hassle-free meal!

Great Chicago Pizza!

I grew up in Waukegan, IL ( just north of Chicago ) and there is a great restaurant there called Louie's. It turns out the owner of Louie's in Dallas is related to the owners of Louie's in Waukegan. I have been in Dallas for over 10 years and just about gave up on getting good pizza until I found this place. They actually make homemade sausage for the Pizza and its takes exactly like the Pizza in Waukegan. I don't know if they have the same sandwiches like the place in Waukegan but I am going back again to find out (i.e. Devil on Horseback, Angel on Horeseback, Bombers, etc.)
