About Search Results

YP - The Real Yellow PagesSM - helps you find the right local businesses to meet your specific needs. Search results are sorted by a combination of factors to give you a set of choices in response to your search criteria. These factors are similar to those you might use to determine which business to select from a local Yellow Pages directory, including proximity to where you are searching, expertise in the specific services or products you need, and comprehensive business information to help evaluate a business's suitability for you. “Preferred” listings, or those with featured website buttons, indicate YP advertisers who directly provide information about their businesses to help consumers make more informed buying decisions. YP advertisers receive higher placement in the default ordering of search results and may appear in sponsored listings on the top, side, or bottom of the search results page.

Outstanding Staff

Recently I underwent a spiritual exercise wherein I divested myself of nearly all personal possessions and spent a month living the life of a penniless monk on the streets of Austin, Texas. During that time I came across the good people at LIFT CAFE who demonstrated an outstanding appreciation of the Spirit of Aloha. I was especially impressed by manager John and staff person Jamie, both of whom basically took me under their wings and gave me not only moral support but also the occasional gratis house coffee. In addition, they allowed me to hang out and use their wifi without ever making me feel unwanted or in the way. And how rare is that??? Very. While not a gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, the coffee was delicious, hot and strong. Just what I needed to LIFT my spirits during a difficult time for this street monk in his mid-60s. The wifi allowed me to stay in contact with my spiritual partner. The best of all possible worlds, one might say. I have many fond memories of that most interesting time, but some of my fondest are centered on John and Jamie. A great big shout-out to the both of them and a world of aloha wished them in all they do. I cannot recommend LIFT CAFE too highly. It is so very rare to meet people who go out of their way to live compassion rather than having it be some abstract concept. Again...John and Jamie...aloha until we meet again! Kerbey Lane Cafe

Location- This is my favorit...

Location- This is my favorite Kerbey location. It's the original and the charm of a house-turned-restaurant makes the small size worth it. And here, you miss a lot of the student crowd. The service is hit or miss, but if you can get Joy as your server, do! She's great. Food- Order the Kerbey Queso (or Cowboy Queso). Just do it. I go with my super-picky sister who doesn't eat pico de gallo or guacamole so we get both on the side. It's perfect because then there's more of everything. The salsa that comes with it isn't spectacular by itself, but alongside the queso it's perfect. The chipotle chicken pasta is awesome. (This might be a seasonal item... I don't think it's on the menu right now) The shredded chicken quesadillas and tacos are decent. The pancakes are thick, heavy ones- not like light, fluffy IHOP pancakes. These guys have serious substance. I like the apple whole wheat and lemon poppyseed! Even if I'm not ordering breakfast, I'll get a pancake on the side. The turkey and avocado sandwich is delicious. The chocolate coffee is good- and you get two free refills. The iced coffee is pretty good too. It's cold brewed which is a plus, and I've never been able to finish the whole glass. When I first moved to Austin I wasn't completely impressed with Kerbey Lane, but now I go regularly because they're open 24 hours, the queso is awesome, and the ambiance is great!

Chucks Deli & Coffee Shop

More than just a deli!

Chuck's isn't just a typical deli--not by a long shot. Of course they have great sandwiches, but they also have special order cakes i.e. one woman wanted a motor home, another wanted a scorpion!! (can't imagine why!) They also have great cheescake, and a specialty item-mice. A type of confectionary thing which is about the size of a mouse, and it looks much like one, with big "ears" a tail, etc. and is delicious! Kids love 'em. Another thing which makes a visit there very special is the original art by local artists which is for sale. The pictures are changed every quarter so there is always something new to see or buy. There is also a piano to add music on special occassions. There is a meeting "room" which will accomodate 12-15 people. They have a drive-thru windown, too. Chuck's deli is definitely a place to visit, and also a place to have a great meal!

Joe's Bakery & Coffee Shop

This place has been on radar for more than a year now. The last time I tried to go here, I couldn't even get into the parking lot. Now that I've actually gotten to sit down and eat, I get it. Courteous employees greet you and grab your name for a seat. Once we sat down, our waiter Saul constantly checked on us. He answered the few questions we had and we ordered the Joey Rocha, the Chicharrones, some Menudo, and a Chorizo and egg taco. The carne guisada is tender and moist, but the gravy/sauce it sits in is Heaven. I could eat that alone with the fresh flour tortillas. I wish the chicharrones were crispy but the salsa it sits in makes up for what I wanted. The menudo hit the spot as it was savory and just went down easy. The chorizo bled grease but had so much flavor. No complaints as long as I can sit down and eat.

El Chile
atxreviewer rated
Great Tex-Mex all the way around!

I think this may be the first or second 5 star rating I've given out so far and it's well deserved. With so much Tex-Mex in town, El Chile has managed to set themselves apart and still stay true to Tex-Mex. I don't know how they do it, but everything I order from there is phenomenal. It's usually pretty hard to get in on weekends, especially in the evenings. I would suggest mid-day lunchtime on the weekends or dinner on the weekdays. The service is usually pretty good and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. It's usually very loud so be prepared to shout at times during dinner. Parking can be scarce at peak times, so that's another reason to go during off-peak times. I could fill up on their free chips and two types of salsa alone, but I would highly recommend the chile rellenos and tres leches cake!

cover charge for two different events

One night I had guests out of town and talked highly of the place. We went to see the band that was playing 7-9 p.m. and paid $6 cover charge.. After the first band finished, second band was going to start at 9:30. Store personel came and told us we have to go out (it was a cold night ) and come back paying another $9 cover charge for the next band...go out and come back in...it is not a good business idea. charge people moderate cover charge and do not let the inconvenience scare people away. of course we didnt stay for the second band just because it was so rude to let us out and tell us to come back half an hour ...such a decent idea Ruta Maya trying to reflect but this was not acceptable if they want to stay classy. Hope managers can read this and take some action because we want to keep going to our Ruta Maya.

Overpriced, low quality deserts..Great Ambience

Dear Family Man This place is good for a light moment with your wife or partner once in a while may be once in 2 years...bring kids n file bankruptcy. The cakes are cold...stale cream, mediocre assortment and expensive hot n cold bevs. Great place to sit chat relax outside the cafe overlooking the lake. If you like looking at college kids reading, browsing, may be studying, playing card games or simply whiling away their precious time by all means feel free to come and waste your money and time ..... I would rather go to the new whole foods where they have abundant assortment of fresh deserts and are sweet to sample if you are confused. Service is mediocre as well and most young people working here are not well trained on the contents of their deserts.

fills a gap

I went to Corazon and It felt like coming back home to Castle Hill except they now have a full bar and a lounge so that when you have to wait you have somewhere pretty cool to sit and watch the crowd . It is decorated really nicely and is not that kitchy mexican decor . Tasteful . Really cool window tin work The food is really pretty good and my favorite Castle Hill Mexican salad is back as are the shrimp enchiladas . It is a much less expensive menu which seems to be a good move when you think about it . Same owners and same chef and more or less the same kitchen staff and lots of familiar faces at the door and on the floor . I liked it a lot and was very comfortable to be back there .It's not Fonda and it's not Chuy's . It fills that gap .

Kenny's Coffee House is great ...

Kenny's Coffee House is great for getting a bite to eat or a quick coffee - especially for those of us who live in Wells Branch. Their breakfast tacos are great and reasonably priced, but I think La Brissa's tacos are a little better, and they have homemade salsa. I have also tried their breakfast platters, like eggs and biscuits and gravy - it's all pretty good. I like that their coffee is freshly roasted, not shipped in. The iced coffee and espresso drinks I've had have been very good. It's a plus that they have wifi if you need to get a little work done. I do have to say that if I didn't live in Wells Branch, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit Kenny's, but it's definitely worth going if you live nearby. Support local biz!

Give it some time

This place just opend up a few months ago and I've only been there once. It was OK, but I'm still reserving my opinion. The theme is a little bit cheesy to me, but this little section of town has needed a local coffee shop for a long time. So, kudos to these guys for opening one up! I ordered a mocha which was OK, but not that great. It was a little watery tasting. I was there in the middle of the afternoon so it was very pleasant and quiet. It looks like they have a stage for live shows, so watch out for loud nights if you don't want to scream to your partner in a small enclosed space. The service was nice and the baristas are dressed in kung-fu looking clothes. It was kind of cute, but again, kind of cheesy.
