I would recommend looking elsewhere for a home inspector. Now they did find some things that I would not have without the home inspection, So it wasn't a complete waste, but I feel that they dropped the ball where it counts.
They claim they have a warranty. But they mark everything as Fair condition to cover themselves (rated fair due to age) Last time I checked a high risk of burning down a house does not constitute FAIR. After spending $600 for full inspection including pest (complete waste only got it because the Lender required) radon, and a full home inspection(around $300). I found my furnace to be a fire hazard due to improper set up which is a visible problem noted by 2 reputable HVAC technicians that it should of been caught on a Home Inspection. House masters says they do not cover items that are code or design. Last time I checked the entire construction of a home is code and design. I should of saved the money and used it on the new furnace I now need. I hope the employees and owners of housemasters can sleep good at night knowing that If I use my furnace I won't!
This company inspected my new home and gave the walls in the basement the highest rating possible. Within one month of moving in however we had water coming in through the walls. On a friend's recommendation we had a structural engineer come out to take a look, and he said that the walls were shifting and there is what is known as "shearing." We sent pictures of the damage, three estimates, and the structural engineers report to the franchise owner. He refused to honor the limited warranty to pay for the repairs, which were approximately 11,000.00. In order to claim the funds for the limited warranty my fiance and I will have to file a claim in small claims court, which we plan on doing.
