Read about the place in The Visitor. Went there after seeing a movie with the family. The service was lousy. The hush puppies we old, cold and hard and should have been tossed out. The catfish was not cooked well enough and should have been crisper.
I do not recommend this establishment. Save your money and go somewhere else.
casual atmosphere, cold beer, good food, reasonable prices. The SOB's were great! and their gumbo fantastic! All the flavors stood out, nothing got lost or muddled. Fried items were in a light batter and only the flavor of the oyster or shrimp came through. We'll be back!

I had the combo platter with 3 small pieces of fried catfish and 3 shrimp. The platter came with beans that were too spicy , coleslaw and french fries. The fish pieces were way too small for the 10.99 I paid. The shrimp tasted fishy which is not normal.
After leaving the restaurant I got sick with an upset stomach, something I rarely have happen.
The place was cold and poorly heated on a cold and rainy day.
I can go on but basically for the money I spent I could have gone Fish n Net or Long John Silvers and gotten more fish and shrimp for Less.
Sorry but the food was less than spectacular ant the decor was supposed to be country but came off as run-down.

I have been going to Charlies for years now, not regularly, just every once in a while. As for the place itself, its a bit humid and noise level is high. Some waitresses have been nice, others have been on the ""i dont care on waiting on anyone"" side. The food has varried from each visit. Sometimes the shrimp is super and others it has been border line. The hushpuppies are very good and don't eat too many or you will have no room for the rest of your meal. The prices are very good and it is worth the visit if you are in town for some home grown restaurants.

I love Catfish Charlie's. The best seafood gumbo I've ever enjoyed and complimentary hushpuppies make it even better. Everything they serve is really good, even the chicken fried steak! Add an icy cold beer and you're set for a fantastic dining experience that you'll want to enjoy again soon. Service is prompt and friendly. The waitresses smile and greet you immediately upon entering and won't forget you once you're seated. Pricing is pretty fair making it a value to boot! A rustic, old style wooden fixture gives a warm feeling in a casual atmosphere. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy your favorite seafoods.
