Northwest Animal Hospital
751 Lamoreaux Dr NW, Comstock Park, MI 49321
When I scheduled my appointment, there was a mix up for when I needed it. So I arrived a week earlier than when my appointment was for. However, instead of sending me home, they got my kitty and I taken care of right away anyway. The vet (I believe her name was Kathy) and the front desk clerk where both very nice and prompt in getting us taken care of.
The outside of the building and the grounds are in pretty rough shape, but didn't we ever learn not to judge a book by it's cover. To me, customer service trumps aesthetics any day.
The hospital is staffed by a rude secretary. She has been gruff and cold every time I've been there.
The building on the outside is in a very bad state of repair: needs paint, gardening major overhaul, the sign is falling apart, the parking lot is very cracked with grass growing up in the cracks, the area is in need of a good sweep up too.
The vet I saw the other day was very nice. He is temporary though. The hospital is up for sale.
So far the actual care of the animals has been good. That's what matters most.

They have seen our pets for 10 years. Never once have we felt they were rude. We live 20 minutes away (at one point we lived 35 minutes) but have always gone here with the pets. We know they will advise us on the best choice for the pets and have never felt like we have been steered in a direction we didn't want to go.

I TOTALLY disagree with the previous review. Everyone has a bad day and you must have found them having one. We took our dog there for eleven years. While there were times I felt he receptionist was less than friendly I ALWAYS felt the vet gave our dog very good care, recently visited another vet for my new pup but will be going back to Northwest as this one I felt was just like you described North West.

We just moved to Grand Rapids and needed a new vet since it was time for our dog's annual vaccines. We went to Northwest because it was really close to our house.
The doctor was really rude. She didn't seem to even like animals. She was really rough with our dog. The previous vets I have been to have asked for my dog's history and proof of previous vaccines. I brought a file of his ""medical history"" but they didn't seem to care about that. They only wanted to know my name and phone number.
The only good thing was that we were in and out in 15 minutes, since there were no other people there. Probably because nobody wants to take their pets to her.
We won't return.
Brought my cat here for 1st checkup and de-claw at ~11mo of age. At time of setting up appointment I asked for pricing for shots, stool and all four de-claw. I dropped off cat at time of checkup and the staff was reluctant to allow me to accompany the cat during initial checkup and shots. This was my first time here at this establishment so being able to see how my cat is handled and get to know the vet a little was extremely important. A half decent vet would encourage you to participate in routine non-surgical parts of the visit. Also, one would at least ask you questions about behaviors and habits to make sure there are no issues, I was asked no questions at all, she didn't even talk to me during my short stay there. The next day after I brought my cat home, I found out that the only did a front de-claw after I specifically ask for all four to be done. Some vets don't do rear de-claws at all and if not, at least they would tell you. I'm not returning here ever again. Even thought it's right across the street from me, I'd rather drive 2 hours to a vet I know will take good care of my family.
