Nutritional Counseling
Some forms of palliative care include medical pain control, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, fluid replacement, non-curative surgical procedures, and alternative treatments such as laser therapy and nutritional support. Even environmental supports can be helpful at this time, such as mobility aides and warming blankets. We do what it takes to apply comforting and compassionate care, at home or in our hospital, during your special pet’s last days.
Comprehensive Examination
We have seen that when we reduce a patient’s fear, anxiety and stress, we have better patient outcomes. During patient visits we can achieve a more accurate reading of vital signs and are able to perform more thorough physical examinations. Surgery patients and sick pets recover faster and can often go home sooner. Boarding pets have a better appetite and more restful sleep. For all of these reasons and more, we know how important it is to find ways to reduce fear anxiety and stress for all of our patients.
Heartworm disease — This will eventually kill the animal as the worms clog the lungs and heart chambers.
Pain Management
With modern advancements in veterinary care, pain and suffering can be minimized or even eliminated completely for our patients. At Animal Care Unlimited, we provide intensive pain management services for every patient. Because we know how adept animals are at hiding discomfort, our team assesses all patients for pain at every checkup.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Pet skin care is essential for comfort and overall health. Animal Care Unlimited provides veterinary dermatology services with allergy testing and treatment for a variety of species — furred, feathered, or scaled.
Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
Injury Treatment
Laser light therapy is a painless, noninvasive treatment for a variety of uncomfortable conditions in pets. Whether your pet is recovering from surgery, has sustained an injury, or suffering from a chronic condition, laser therapy may be the most effective approach to pain relief. Commonly used to relieve chronic pain in aging and arthritic pets, this new technology is also effective on a wide range of conditions such as back injuries, wounds, hip dysplasia, post-operative pain, skin conditions, and more.
Intestinal Foreign Object Removal
Dr. Marksz is married and has three rescue kitties: Mocha, Chai, and Chino (Cappuccino), named after coffee drinks as she met her husband, Jared, at Starbucks. Chai is an independent and cranky calico, Chino is sweet, laid back and cuddly, and Mocha is an extremely intelligent but very expensive ‘free’ kitty as she has required several foreign-body removal surgeries, one of those ‘foreign bodies’ being a penny! Dr. Marksz plans to add more animal family members as their family and living space continues to grow.
Overweight pets can usually be restored to good health with appropriate diet and exercise. Many heart patients may benefit from a prescription diet, such as one with low sodium to prevent fluid build-up.
Heart Disease Treatment
The heart is the most important organ in the body, and keeping your pet's heart in top condition is essential to good health and long life. The veterinarians at Animal Care Unlimited are skilled at diagnosing and treating heart disease in companion animals.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Cancer Treatment
Almost two years ago our miniature lop-eared angora bunny did the same thing. He couldn't get up. I took him to the vet and came home with syringes, needles, IV solution, antibiotics - my kitchen looked like a hospital. My husband became my assistant as we nursed, bathed and spoon fed bunny. Bunny got better but his head remained tilted and he can only hop in a clockwise direction, otherwise he falls over. When bunny had a relapse we didn't have much hope. We tried a chemotherapy drug - it worked but bunny stopped drinking. Back to spoon feeding, IV hydration.
We perform deep cleaning and other dental procedures when your pet is under anesthesia. As with any surgical procedure, we use the safest anesthesia protocols for all of our patients. During the procedure, your pet's vitals are monitored continuously, and IV fluids provide added support. This monitoring and support continues until your pet is awake and alert. Any pain management needed for oral surgery or other procedures is initiated during surgery and continued upon discharge, for a comfortable home recovery.
Veterinary Surgery
As an AAHA® accredited veterinary hospital, each patient enjoys the highest standard of care for surgery and anesthesia. Whether we are performing a routine spay or neuter, or a more complex procedure, your pet’s comfort, safety, and welfare is our priority.
Laser Surgery
We offer the latest technology in veterinary surgery today: laser surgery. With this technology, a laser beam replaces the traditional scalpel. The laser light efficiently vaporizes living tissue while it seals blood vessels, capillaries, lymphatics, and nerve endings. This results in several benefits to our patients, including...
Declawing
Spaying and Neutering
Whether you are looking for a young puppy or kitten, a mature dog or a friendly older cat, a purebred or a mixed breed, a local animal shelter is a great place to start. They can help you decide which pet is right for you, talk to you about how to fit your pet into your family, and most will assist in spaying and neutering.
Prior to administering anesthesia, our veterinarians examine the patient and perform diagnostic blood work to identify any possible risks. Throughout the procedure, our skilled technicians monitor patient respiration, blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels. This monitoring is continued until the patient is alert and fully recovered from anesthesia.
X-Ray
Dental Radiology
We use diagnostic tools to evaluate the oral cavity and look for early signs of disease. Digital dental x-ray allows us to view the teeth and supporting bone structure, providing an exceptionally detailed image.
Microchipping
We recommend microchipping, a safe and simple procedure for the safety of your dogs and cats. Insertion of the microchip can be performed in our office and is often combined with spay or neuter surgery.
Full-time benefits include: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Long/Short Term Disability, 401k, Flexible Spending Account, paid sick time, holidays, personal time and vacation. Excellent pet product and service discounts (including pet boarding), continuing education assistance and scrub allowance.
Grooming
On December 9, 1986, from humble beginnings in a small rented office space on Billingsley Road, Animal Care Unlimited (ACU) was born. Often working 16-18 hour days, Dr. Burton became even more committed to his vision but on a larger scale. By 1991, he purchased the land just across the street from that small office space and built a brand new 16,000 sq.ft veterinary facility, complete with boarding and grooming services. For most people that would be enough challenge for a lifetime, but Dr. Burton thought differently!
Senior Pet Care
Wellness and preventive care begins with an annual veterinary checkup for every pet, more frequently for those with chronic conditions, impaired immune systems, and senior pets. Contact Animal Care Unlimited to discuss wellness care for your pets.
