I had a very bad experience with Everest Van Lines.
The problem came when waiting for our items to arrive. About a week and a half after the initial moving day, I sent an email asking for an update on the ETA, no reply. A few more days and I call them asking for an update and I couldn’t get hold of anyone. Finally, someone replied to my email just saying that my items were on route to their destination and upon further questioning they came back saying they would get an update for me which didn’t happen. After more emails and calls it turns out, my stuff NEVER left the original area of the move! By the time we got our things it had been 17 business days from the first date we could’ve received our items and countless emails and phone calls which showed very little interest to take care of me as a client. It is as if they didn’t need to put in the effort because I had already signed the contract. Our situation was more stressing since we have a toddler at home who could’ve had a more pleasant time had we had our things arrive on time.
Then it came to talk about compensation, and I have to say I felt cheated again. They were offering a less than 5% discount on the whole price of the move! I had to do their job in asking what was going on with my delivery, making phone calls and sending emails and still they couldn’t offer a fairer compensation.
Additionally when negotiating the compensation I met with a costumer service person who was frankly confrontational. Letting me know that I basically was lucky to get that amount and threatening to post email exchanges where I was supposedly asking for money to keep quiet. Of course I was asking for money! I paid quite a lot and to have this experience was awful. Getting more money back would’ve meant I felt the wrongs were righted. Needless to say I am not accepting any money from they now or in the future. They make you feel bad just for asking what you think is right!
Everest Van Lines was extremely incompetent to handle my move. Men hired to pack my items were inexperienced in this profession and DID NOT have the knowledge nor the capability for this assignment. They destroyed my family heirlooms from my recently deceased mother.
My items were handled poorly and unprofessional. EVL did not hold up their guarantees on price, delivery, quality, respect of my items and professional services.
Senior Relocation Specialist, Alvin Green, who provided me the quote would not return my phone calls or answer emails.
Shipment went from Maryland to Florida; sat in a storage facility then picked up from an outside subcontracted trucking company driver out of Nevada and then driven to California.
Complaints against Everest Van Lines, Economy Van Lines or Allied Van Lines (they keep changing names to hide from a terrible track record):
1. Increase from original Binding Quote (No. 148-N943876) on move date. Overcharge of packing material (charged for 9 additional boxes when in fact they were not used, additional goods and services (cubic feet) and fuel charge. Charged $30 for a TV crate when in fact the TV came sandwiched between 2 pieces of thinly wrapped cardboard. (Overcharge = $1,346.25).
2. Freezer was filled with MOLD and glass shelves were displaced. Dents.
3. Paintings wrapped face-to-face and melted together.
4. Floor length antique mirror broken.
5. Antique Grandfather clock broken.
6. Cedar chest damaged.
7. Night stand broken.
I submitted a 72-page claim with their Claims Department and the result was negative. EVL wanted to refund me a lousy $66 when I paid nearly $3,000 (which included the overcharges).
I was covered by their Basic Protection Plan at $0.60 per lbs. per article of insurance coverage for a total of $800 that Everest Van Lines offered and they didn’t even honor that coverage.
Everest Van Lines is NOT trustworthy. Would not recommend them nor hire them. I reported them to the BBB. Will also report them to DOT.
This company was recommended by a self storage company that we are using. We were not disappointed. The service was very easy to organize and they arrived on time. The service was excellent and the 2 chaps who assisted with the move couldn't have been more helpful. The price was very reasonable and an invoice was produced very quickly. I will have no hesitation in recommending them.
