Overall
Facility

Just want everyone to now I adopted a dog there last year.... I took in to the vets a month later for a check up only to find out he had Heartworms! Cost me $1100.00..So just make sure if you adopt from them do your homework before you adopt!! This by no means is saying anything against the Humane Society for I know they want to give the animals a good home...I just want you to know so you can ask all these questions before you adopt!

Overall
great place to get a dog

These people really care about getting these dogs into good homes. They want to place as many dogs as possible into loving homes. Some other organizations had all sorts of requirements like home visits, which are all great things to do, but honestly, what is the appearance of my living room going to impact how I care for the dog? I had a hard time adopting because work schedule never meshed with their home visit people and it was just so aggravating! The AWS folks were really great in that they wanted to be sure my two dogs got along with the dog I fell in love with at the shelter. They have adoption days on Saturdays. My husband and I came and visited him and were able to take him home and foster him for a week to make sure he would work out before adopting him. Their fees are really reasonable, and we got a fully vetted dog with all his vaccines. Already neutered too. They have lots of volunteers, so not everybody knows the answers to all the questions, but I dealt with the director, Robin mostly, and one of the volunteers named Kathy and they were both wonderful! When I came back to make the adoption official, I talked to the surgery technician, Gloria, and she knew all of the history of my dog and after her shift was over to tell it to me. I will definitely go back for my next dog!!!
