I had a very bad experience with Everest Van Lines.The problem came when waiting for our items to arrive. About a week and a half after the initial moving day, I sent an email asking for an update on the ETA, no reply. A few more days and I call them asking for an update and I couldn’t get hold of anyone. Finally, someone replied to my email just saying that my items were on route to their destination and upon further questioning they came back saying they would get an update for me which didn’t happen. After more emails and calls it turns out, my stuff NEVER left the original area of the move! By the time we got our things it had been 17 business days from the first date we could’ve received our items and countless emails and phone calls which showed very little interest to take care of me as a client. It is as if they didn’t need to put in the effort because I had already signed the contract. Our situation was more stressing since we have a toddler at home who could’ve had a more pleasant time had we had our things arrive on time.Then it came to talk about compensation, and I have to say I felt cheated again. They were offering a less than 5% discount on the whole price of the move! I had to do their job in asking what was going on with my delivery, making phone calls and sending emails and still they couldn’t offer a fairer compensation. Additionally when negotiating the compensation I met with a costumer service person who was frankly confrontational. Letting me know that I basically was lucky to get that amount and threatening to post email exchanges where I was supposedly asking for money to keep quiet. Of course I was asking for money! I paid quite a lot and to have this experience was awful. Getting more money back would’ve meant I felt the wrongs were righted. Needless to say I am not accepting any money from they now or in the future. They make you feel bad just for asking what you think is right!
Everest Van Lines was extremely incompetent to handle my move. Men hired to pack my items were inexperienced in this profession and DID NOT have the knowledge nor the capability for this assignment. They destroyed my family heirlooms from my recently deceased mother.My items were handled poorly and unprofessional. EVL did not hold up their guarantees on price, delivery, quality, respect of my items and professional services.Senior Relocation Specialist, Alvin Green, who provided me the quote would not return my phone calls or answer emails.Shipment went from Maryland to Florida; sat in a storage facility then picked up from an outside subcontracted trucking company driver out of Nevada and then driven to California.Complaints against Everest Van Lines, Economy Van Lines or Allied Van Lines (they keep changing names to hide from a terrible track record):1. Increase from original Binding Quote (No. 148-N943876) on move date. Overcharge of packing material (charged for 9 additional boxes when in fact they were not used, additional goods and services (cubic feet) and fuel charge. Charged $30 for a TV crate when in fact the TV came sandwiched between 2 pieces of thinly wrapped cardboard. (Overcharge = $1,346.25).2. Freezer was filled with MOLD and glass shelves were displaced. Dents.3. Paintings wrapped face-to-face and melted together.4. Floor length antique mirror broken.5. Antique Grandfather clock broken.6. Cedar chest damaged.7. Night stand broken.I submitted a 72-page claim with their Claims Department and the result was negative. EVL wanted to refund me a lousy $66 when I paid nearly $3,000 (which included the overcharges).I was covered by their Basic Protection Plan at $0.60 per lbs. per article of insurance coverage for a total of $800 that Everest Van Lines offered and they didn’t even honor that coverage.Everest Van Lines is NOT trustworthy. Would not recommend them nor hire them. I reported them to the BBB. Will also report them to DOT.
Everest does not honor their quotes for service. They also do not offer a fair settlement when you file a claim for damage.
Good company that does great work. Very happy we chose them. My experience with them have been very positive. Very professional, hardworking, helping & efficient movers. Highly recommended to anybody.
Still waiting for our belongings after 75 days, 53 business days. No one will return calls, we even offered to pick our stuff up. We can't get any information at all. Very frustrating.
During the quote process I was promised and guaranteed by the salesperson an specific pick up date, we went over 48hr window and specifically told me that not to worry, pick up to be on 07/27. I had noted that their weight was low and sent the weights from two reputable national carriers for comparison, I was told that they were experts and was asked for deposit. 2 days later a I got a new estimate and had to give a 2nd deposit. I had been told an ABLE/ADVANTAGE truck will arrive to pick my belongings 07/27.Pick up day come and went (07/27) and they did not show up. I called the sales person, the estimator, 1-800 number and got the run around. Any time I would talk with a person i would be promised a follow up call in 5 min and I would be taken care off...only to start calling again half hour later when they did not call back. Late in the afternoon I was told that the truck was in route and will be there between 2pm-3pm on Friday 07/29. I called at 9am on 07/29 and ended up with a third party carrier that asked to reschedule for 07/30...they knew I had plane tickets and incurring penalties and promise to work things out and call me back...nothing happened. I started calling again, when someone would pick up the phone and I introduced myself, they would hang up on me. Eventually, i got ahold of customer service only to be told that I could not make alternate arrangements as the contract gave them a 48hr window and they could show up until midnight. I finally got a call Friday 07/28 around 6:30pm to inform me that I was confirmed for 8am on 07/29. I had to change my plane tickets, pay penalties on the house and wait.on 07/29 they did not show up, I made over 45 calls, left messages and nothing. I sent a email message at 10:45am informing them that due to breach of contract I was going with an alternate carrier. They then contacted me and threatened to withheld my deposit, I have try to communicate with them with out luck...be aware!!! Very unprofessional company
They both worked quickly and lifted the heaviest items I had with no problem. I would definitely recommend this moving service and request them if you want the best!

In fact, even if you're moving within the same state but you have to go through another state or country first, it's likely considered an interstate move, rather than a local one. That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.

Nonbinding vs. Binding Contracts

In basic terms, there are two types of moving contracts: binding and nonbinding. Binding, as well as binding not-to-exceed, contracts are the most preferable for people hiring movers. These list an estimated price the moving company cannot charge more than. So, even if your local move takes an hour longer or your belongings are heavier than expected for an interstate move, you're still only responsible for paying a fixed amount.
Nonbinding contracts, on the other hand, have no fixed final number. Instead, they list a rate - by the hour or by the pound/kilo - and you're responsible for paying exactly how much your move costs in those terms.
Keep in mind that movers provide a variety of services, many of which you may not require. These can affect how expensive your move will be. For example, a full-service move that includes packing and unpacking will be pricier than a local move that only includes loading the truck, driving it to the new home and unloading it.

If you're asking your movers to transport large, hard-to-move items, like pianos, for instance, you'll likely pay an extra fee. Likewise, if your apartment building doesn't have an elevator or the truck has to be parked far from your home, you may be charged extra. Look for Reviews and Recommendations
When hiring movers, it's a good idea to both look at reviews online and ask your friends and family members for recommendations. Personal endorsements will go a long way toward helping you determine whether you can expect the company to do a quick and professional job.

Call the FMCSA
For long-distance or interstate moves, you can easily check that companies have the proper licensing and insurance, which is a clear indication that they're legitimate. All interstate moving companies must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, so call 888-368-7238 to confirm the licenses, insurance and credentials of the movers you're considering. The FMCSA can also tell you if any complaints have been filed against a particular moving company.
Check with the American Moving and Storage Association
For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.

Pack and Transport Your Valuables
If you have items that are emotionally or financially valuable to you, do your best to pack and move them yourself. Keep jewelry, expensive artwork, inherited valuables and even costly electronics in your own car - that way you'll have complete control over their safety at all times.
Choose a Moving Company That Plans Ahead
Moving companies can better keep your belongings safe when the movers plan ahead. What does this mean? Many companies take extra time to measure doorways, halls and stairways to find the safest route in and out of your home. They should also provide furniture blankets, covers and moving pads to keep both your home and your belongings free of scratches or other damage.
Keep the Moving Area Safe
There are some things you can control on moving day and some things you simply can't, such as the weather. If you're moving on a snowy, icy or rainy day, keeping all of your paths, stairways and walkways clear and dry is crucial. This can help protect both the movers and the large items they're carrying to and from the truck.
The subject of tipping is relatively unclear when it comes to movers. However, there is a general rule of thumb that most people in the industry agree on: Tip your movers if they've done a good job and you think a tip is warranted.
Generally, a 5 percent tip is considered appropriate, though some people recommend paying $20 per day, per mover for basic, local moves. However, almost everyone agrees you should first do a quick walk-through of your home to check for any damage to your furniture or belongings and to make sure everything is where you'd like it to be.
If you do decide to give a tip, divide it evenly and give money to each individual, rather than giving the entire sum to the head mover and expecting it to be doled out equally. One type of tip to avoid: alcohol. It's usually illegal for movers to have bottles of alcohol in the truck or van, so tipping a bottle of wine or liquor could get them into trouble.
