Overall

Awesome dentist and staff. I have visited a handful of dentist the past few years of living in BCS and this practice is BY FAR the most genuine and caring I have been too. The staff is always accommodating for patients, has 24/7 contact for dental emergencies, is truly concerned about pain management, and completely honest about options. I would recommend Dr. Black to anyone looking for a dentist in the Brazos Valley.

Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is the most effective agent available to help prevent tooth decay. It is a mineral that is naturally present in varying amounts in almost all foods and water supplies. The benefits of fluoride have been well known for over 50 years and are supported by many health and professional organizations.
Dental Sealants
A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves (called pits and fissures) of teeth. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these deep grooves. Teeth with these conditions are hard to clean and are very susceptible to decay. A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves, creating a smooth, easy to clean surface.

Fillings
A silver amalgam filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a silver filling.
Veneers
Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Crowns
A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Bridges
Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or need to be re-cemented due to normal wear.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.

Periodontal Surgery
If the pockets do not heal after scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery may be needed to reduce pocket depths, making teeth easier to clean. Dr. Black may also recommend that you see a Periodontist (specialist of the gums and supporting bone).
Deep Cleaning
(deep cleaning) will be recommended. It is usually done one quadrant of the mouth at a time while the area is numb. In this procedure, tartar, plaque, and toxins are removed from above and below the gum line (

Dental Implants
Dr. Black was born in Conroe, Texas and moved shortly after to Hempstead, Texas where his father opened a dental practice. After graduating from Hempstead High School as Valedictorian, he moved to College Station where he received his Bachelor of Arts at Texas A&M University in Spanish. He fell in love with the town and with his future wife Jami Curlee. They moved to San Antonio where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society. He also received several prestigious awards including the Dr. Kenneth L. Stewart Memorial Award for Excellence in Prosthodontics and the Outstanding Achievement in Operative Dentistry Award. He has completed several continuing education courses including 109 hours involving implant dentistry. In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, playing sports, and spending time with his wife and children, Madison, Jackson and Cameron.
