With springtime here, I get that itch to tidy up, organize, declutter ... purge, even. Full disclosure: I might be a design freak, but I'm not a neat freak. Especially with a 2-year-old girl in the house, things can get downright wild at the Jungalow. One way that I keep things in check and looking organized, but still homey, is with crates. I love the look and feel of the vintage ones, but new ones work well, too. They are so sturdy, and the typography often left over on the crates can add a fun little graphic pop to the home.
Use crates as side tables (with storage!), stack them to create full shelving units, or mount crates on the wall to have a quick and easy floating shelf solution in the kitchen, entryway or home-office. Find new crates (sometimes for free) at your local wine shop, like Silverlake Wine, or find vintage ones at flea markets like the Pasadena City College Flea Market (first Sunday of the month from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.), or from wholesalers like The Crate People.
