I used to get takeout about once or twice a month and I we dined there 2 or 3 times a year. I went to the Bamboo House so often (for about fifteen years) simply because the food was great, service was fantastic and the prices were fair.
Since Joey sold and his sister was around less, our takeout started having problems. Joey’s sister NEVER had problems making sure the orders were perfect. I also noticed dishes that we had ordered for years were now being made with processed chicken instead of fresh. BLLLLLLLLLaaaaaacccchhhhhh.
I gave the Bamboo House one last try on January 18th but the lights were out with a closed sign on the door. The sign said they were on vacation and the kitchen was being remodeled as the previous post stated. The sign should have said “closed for business because new owners can’t run a Chinese restaurant”.
Just as people see right through the dishonesty on the “closed” sign, we also see the new owners probably bought the Bamboo because they wanted to make a quick buck. Hey Joey, I think I know of a restaurant that you could probably purchase real cheap in a fire sale!
Come back, Joey, PLEASE come back!!!

We had many good times there. What happened? Place is depressing and empty and waiter was very bad. Manager won't do anything - guess staff is all his family? Imagine taking out of town relatives to a ""nice restaurant"" and ending up in the Burger King in the parking lot? I was embarassed as I did not realize it has changed hands.

I have been a regular for over 4 years at the Bamboo
House and while I have as well seen a deterioration
in service since new owner, I had felt they were trying
to correct the issues..Not sure their still open as when I went there a few weeks ago for a sat. eve there was a note on the door saying ""closed for vacation and kitchen
remodeling""...I had talked to the owner several times
about his need to charge a cover due to so many deadbeats I had observed over the years sucking on a softdrink all night and ordering nothing else..and, sadly,
it was not just a couple of people doing this.
No business can sustain with this kind of lack of support. Its a shame if they close because you cannot find
many places that offer a resonably priced dinner and
decent food quality for the most part, with very good
live music..Get the deadbeats to pay a cover of at least $5.00 with a (2) drink minimum and those of us who
appreciate all the above will gladly support the Bamboo House..Jerry Sandusky (not the sports guy!)

We used to go to the Bamboo House all the time. It had been a while (maybe about a year) so we went 8/13. We wanted to relax at the bar and have some appetizers. We each had a couple of drinks and the food came. Then the bartender (Raoul) left. We wanted more drinks (as did others waiting) and he was just gone. 2 more people came in and sat down. Still no bartender. A waiter came through to grab something from the bar and I asked what happened to the bartender. He said he was in the bathroom. I don't begrudge anyone a break but leaving the bar unattended (30 mins in total) was just bad service. By the time he came back we had decided just to leave. We didn't say anything just asked for the check. He gave it to us and we had payment ready to hand him but he had immediately started washing glasses and we had to wait 5 more minutes. We definitely noticed a change in the place - we will not be back.
I see the owner posted rebuttals to the other 3 reviews accusing people of being drunk and cursing and it shows he has no interest in improving the place. I suspect things will not get better. All I can do is not go back there and share my experience. It is a real shame because we had gone there since the 70s!

The bands they hire now are really sub-par....especially that Sugarbeat Band They suck big time.... The band has a pre-recorded background music to which the other musicians have to play along.....The drummer is the leader and he is just arrogant. .....they are sooooo loud it hurts your ears....they all look like they are ready for the retirement home.....
The Bamboo House used to be the place to hang out and dance the night away.... but with these types of bands you just want to leave....evidently they are not paying enough money to get any good dance bands....
Nothing is the same since Joey sold this business....

When Joey Chiu owned the Bamboo House, he was the ultimate host. He knew how to treat his frequent customers with gratitude and appreciation. It was always a pleasure to go to the Bamboo House. Not any more.
So, tonight was St. Patrick's day. We had been enjoying an evening of specials at the Bluestone in Timonium, to include half priced appetizers and wine/beer. We left after being treated like royality and proceeded to the Bamboo House. The crowd was light and a singing drummer was on stage. I ordered a diet coke. After about 20 minutes decided to head for home. The check came and the diet coke was $3.20!!! I coudn't believe it! I figured for that price, I must have bought the glass. IWe left and I took the Diet Coke with me.We were outside and the owner approached me to inform me that I could not have the glass, that the price of $3.20 was because there was entertainment! WHAT!!! He offered to put my diet coke into a cup. Gee, thanks. I declined and gave him the diet coke, which he tossed into the street in front of me, and went back in side. Wow, that was a special feeling. Should have stayed at the Bluestone!
Bottom line, the Bamboo House as we knew it is gone. If you don't mind being treated like a dollar sign, and no customer service consideration, you will love this place. For me, not worth the $3.20 diet coke. What the heck do they charge for drinks? Sit on your wallet.

For over 10 years I enjoyed having lunch and dinner at the Bamboo House. When Joey sold the business to a new owner around November 2008 the quality of personal attention from the waiters dropped lower than Wall Street.in bankruptcy. Here is my last experience eating at the Bamboo House. My wife and myself arrived at 7 P.M. We were seated at 7:02 P.M. The waiter arrived at 7:15 P.M. We ordered drinks that arrived at 7:25 P.M. At 7:25 we placed our food order. Then we waited and waited. At 7:50 P.M. I called the waiter over and asked how much longer before we are served dinner, he said not long. We both ordered another drink. At 7:55 the waiter brought our second round of drinks. Again we waited and waited, 8:15 we still did not receive dinner. At this point we were at the Bamboo House for 1 hour and 15 mintues and were not served dinner. The waiter disappered and we got tired of sitting with no waiter service. We got so discussed with lack of service, we went to the manager paided for the drinks and left, we went home without having dinner.
