A retired US Navy Sailor stated that he was having hearing issues and saw an advertisement in the Yellow Pages for a free hearing test. He went in sometime in the Spring of 2015. He remembers getting a "free" hearing test where he met Mr. Mike Perkovic, an audioprosthologist. Mr. Perkovic insisted to be called "Dr. Mike."

The Sailor and his wife constantly reminded Dr. Mike that the VA could give them free hearing aids, to which Dr. Mike replied that he would take care of it. Dr. Mike told the elderly couple that he would call the VA to pay for the hearing aids. Dr. Mike presented the Sailor with a contract. The Sailor has Alzheimer 's disease and is easily confused. The Sailor had no idea that he was signing a purchase agreement and a financing contract for the hearing aids. The wife was concerned of what was going on and told the elderly Veteran not to sign the agreement. Dr. Mike then physically pushed the Veteran's hand down to sign the contract. Even after the contract was signed, Dr. Mike continued to promise that he would contact the VA for the funding for the hearing aids. The Sailor never received a copy of the purchase and financing agreement.

A few days later, the Sailor returned to have his hearing aids adjusted. He inquired about the VA funding promised by Dr. Mike. Dr. Mike, again, lied to the Veteran, and said he was contacting the VA for the funding and not to worry. The Veteran had no idea that Dr. Mike purposely misled him into purchasing hearing aids that not only they could not afford but from which the VA could provide for free as part of his Veteran Status.

Because the Sailor and his wife did not hear anything from Dr. Mike, they visited the VA to inquire about the funding for the new hearing aids. Only then, did they learn that Dr. Mike had blatantly lied to them. There was no record of any attempt to receive funding for the hearing aids for the Sailor-furthermore, the VA does not pay/reimburse for private sector hearing aids; they only prescribe from their facility.

Upon learning that the VA does not pay/reimburse for the hearing aids, contrary to what Dr. Mike had promised them, the Sailor tried to return the hearing aids. Their daughter attempted to visit the Clinton Township location to inquire about the situation. Dr. Mike continued his deceptions and lied to the daughter that he would take of everything; the VA will pay; he promised the Sailor that he will not have to pay for it; etc.

Dr. Mike fraudulently and with coercion, forced the elderly Sailor to sign a contract of which he was not fully aware of the contents and definitely not able minded to form such a contract. Furthermore, Dr. Mike continued his pattern of lies and deceit that the VA would fund everything to the point of where the Sailor was past his return-point in the contract. To make matters worse, the corporate Sterling Hearing Center will not reply to any customer service requests for assistance in this case.
