I love Doug's Muffler. I just left there without spending a dime. Doug could have charged me for a new suspension to fix the horrible knocking sound in my wheel wells. Instead, Doug and his crew removed all the nasty ice and snow from under my minivan that caused a mess in his shop, and then sent me on my way. Anyone else would have either charged me, or just told me it was snow. Not only was he honest, but he took the time out to help me on a busy day. It's safe to say that I'll be coming back again soon.
I rarely ever write reviews on websites, but I had to write one about Doug's Muffler. I've been coming here for years and have recommended them to all my friends. I'm one of those rare Detroit area males that knows absolutely nothing about cars, and they have never taken advantage of me. Doug and his guys have always given me the cheapest route to fixing my car without trying to charge me for the extra stuff that I don't need. I've shopped around at corporate places like Pep Boys, Walmart, and Midas, and they are trained to sell you the most expensive option, and give you the excuse that they need to replace an entire exhaust or brake system to avoid a lawsuit. I decided to write this post today, because I unfortunately had to send my wife up there and they treated her with the same respect as a seasoned mechanic. The only downfall is that I moved to St. Clair Shores, and he only has a place in Mt. Clemens. So go to Doug's so he can get so busy that he has to open one near me!

I have had a lot of friends use Dougs, they have been recommended by several people to me over the years and I have personally even taken my boyfriends truck there with NO issues and great prices, so naturally when I needed a muffler I went to Dougs too even though it is WAY out of my way to do so just all on past experience and word of mouth reputation. My opinion of them changed yesterday when Doug Jr. told me that in order to get my parts back (muffler and catalytic converter) that I would have to pay a core deposit on the converter. So I left it alone since I was limited on funds, when I got home I researched it out, called other muffler shops and auto parts stores NONE of which charge a CORE DEPOSIT! My boyfriend called Dougs back and argued with little Dougie and he OUT RIGHT LIED to him and stated that he NEVER told me there was a core deposit and just that he could get money back for it. Yeah WHATEVER little Dougie, you are an absolute scammer and a LIAR! If you do not want to be out right lied to and scammed...I implore you to take your car somewhere else. I may have still overpaid by $30 to $50 because all the other shops I called gave me roughly the same estimate that I paid, but ALL said if they kept the converter they would have knocked off $30-$50 on the total. I would rather pay $100 more to an HONEST BUSINESS and one that does not see a chick walk in and instantly think to up the price or fictionalize some mumbo jumbo because well, I was a girl and did not know any better
