This brand new restaurant reminds me of why i first stopped in a taco joint on cherokee. No frills authentic mexican food. Many of the areas "authentic" mexican restaurants have seemed to water down the authenticity for the sake of their patronage with hip white kids. The first thing to go was the salsa. Several years ago it seemed that smoky spicy handmade salsa all but disappeared from cherokee's taco scene; being replaced with a bland ketchupy substitute that any mexican will tell you is not "salsa". At chapparritos, the first thing you encounter is a hot basket of chips and two varieties of excellent salsa ( roja y verde ) prepared by the chef/owner himself. It may seem silly to write a review based on the basket of free chips brought by your server before the meal; but any restaurant that puts care and attention to detail like this into a free appetizer, should make you confident that this skillful chef will work for your money and leave you satisfied with anything on the menu.Authentic inexpensive quality fast. This is what you've been longing for in a cherokee taco joint.

Stopped here last weekend after taking a wrong turn while famished. We were very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of homemade food we received. The enchiladas came with lots of meat and a red sauce, not drowning in cheese as in so many places, tasty rice and enough meat that I was full after two and had to take some home. My husband had tamales which had a choice of red or green sauce and which were served in the wrappings. Great homemade quality and taste. The restaurant itself is very casual and nothing fancy. All the family members seem to work there in some capacity and were all anxious to make sure we were happy with our food. An excellent experience, one to repeat by choice and not accident. Just don't expect fancy or even cute. Go for the food.
Was very excited when Qdoba opened up on Clayton Rd.. Beautiful building inside and out. I was however very disappointed with the service and quality of the food. I eat at Qdoba at least once a week at the Creve Coeur location and have never had any complaints about the service or food it has always been great. At the new Clayton location the portion of meat and grilled vegetables they gave me was half the size of what I have gotten at other locations. The meat was barely warm. Service was also a disappointment the person preparing did not say hello back. When I checked out went to pick up the bag and it was ripped my food fell out. Hoping that this location will improve with time.
F*#%*!< delicious - craving something quick affordable and fresh? Healthy and you will feel good about putting this in your body I promise you that- me and my dude checked it out and now it's a fav. When he wants McDonald's to keep lunch under 5 bucks I know I can grab a 4$ Chk taco salad that'll fill me up and make my body scream thank you! I was desperately in need of the fresh nutrients you just fed me- real talk this is my new fav. Local joint- and the ppl are pretty hip- not hipster but groovy it seems they care a lot about their product- yey!
As this is a place down the street from where I live it sounded like a great place to check out. I love Mexican Cuisine. The bathrooms are not the greatest but they are not as bad as I have seen either. The food tastes great but I would like a little bigger portions for the price. If you are looking for an authentic Mexican Experience this is the place. You walk in and it is a little bit of Mexico by Saint Louis International Airport. Including an entire staff who do NOT speak English.
From the food, service and atmosphere, Hacienda is always a must go to destination. The City Tacos are outstanding and well as the Veggie Layer Dip (if you are in charge of bringing a dish to share to a party, pick one of these up - it's a crowd pleaser and will be gone very quickly) Two of my other all time favorites are Chile Relleno or Chicken Mole, best in town!
I live in the neighborhood. We have been waiting for a while for a good restaurant to go in that location. Our wait has paid off! The food was delicious the waiter was superb, and the margarita was amazing! I had a 95 year old lady with me, and while I'm not quite that young, my other three friends and I all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly! Welcome to the neighborhood!
Visiting from Texas and I love Mexican food but have been disappointed in the offerings until now. Beef enchiladas are full of flavor and while I haven't experienced green rice before it was flavorful with just the right amount of heat. They packed up my tortillas chips and sent them with me at no charge. Total bill including drinks was $13.61.
I am always looking for the best Mexican Food in St Louis, and Tower Taco is wonderful. The Mole sause is amazing with a tamale. I eat here at least once a week now. The service is always wonderful, they really make you feel comfortable. They have a small patio, great addition on the far end of Cherokee Street
It is not closed...we ate there earlier tonight and the food is fantastic! I can't wait to go back again. We were with a group of about ten and the service was excellent and fast. Everyone loved the food they ordered...no complaints. None of the servers were irritated...they were there to please and they did.
