        Christ Lutheran Church was established as a mission congregation in Columbia, Howard County, Maryland in 1992. Our nearly 100 members come from all over the area and many different walks of life. Christ Lutheran is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS, for short), a nationwide and international Lutheran church body, which began in 1850. Today, WELS is the third largest Lutheran church body in America that has grown to more than 1,200 congregations (just in North America); it has over 400,000 baptized members served by more than 1,000 pastors. Our church is led by Pastor Jeff Samelson, who came to us in 2000 from the seminary (Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary). Before deciding to study for the public ministry, Pastor Samelson worked overseas in the U.S. Foreign Service. He and his wife Charlene have two children, Joel and Rachel (click on the picture to enlarge). If you are looking for a structured outline of our beliefs, the best way for us to help you is personal interaction between you and our pastor. We are excited to be worshipping now in our new building located at 12570 Clarksville Pike in Clarksville, MD (that's on the west side of MD 108, just south of Guilford Road).         Sunday Morning, our Education Hour begins Sunday morning at 9:15. We offer an adult Bible study, a teen Bible study, and Sunday School classes for younger children. At 10:30 we have our service, a modern setting of the traditional Lutheran liturgy. The congregants and choir sing hymns of praise chosen each week to accompany and support the Bible readings and the sermon. Every other week, we celebrate the Lord's Supper with communion. After the service, we meet informally over coffee, juice, and snacks. Every other week, individual members host smaller Growth Groups in their homes. The gatherings are opportunities for new and old members and their friends to grow in their understanding of God's Word. We focus on short selections from the Bible and casually discuss them and their application to our daily lives. Sunday School open to any child. Our trained teachers lovingly communicate the truths of many Bible stories through lessons, crafts, and interactive methods in graded classes from tiny tots to 8th grade. Led by the guitar, each week they join together in joyfully singing Christian songs. This is a wonderful way to connect our children with the ancient biblical persons such as Adam, Eve, Abraham, Moses, David, and especially Jesus.
