We are located just 10 minutes from the Esten Hills Mall in Clarence, New York, a northern suburb of Buffalo, New York.
Spruce Meadow Farm offers We have two barns, three riding rings; an indoor ring and two outdoor rings, and a pasture. We recently built a brand new barn that is available for horse boarding and also houses our lesson horses. Our front barn horse stables houses fourteen horses. With three sets of cross-ties and a large tack room there is plenty of space for horseback riding equipment and tacking up horses!
The front ring is 140 feet by 70 feet. Many beginners learn to ride in this ring, and day campers often ride there. The hunt course is 240 feet by 120 feet. Approximately a dozen jumps are set up in this ring. However, the hunt course is so big, there’s still plenty of room to ride on the flat without running into fences! We are going to be building a new indoor horse stables riding arena this spring to improve the facility and make more room for horseback riding lessons and exercising the horses.

SMF has been a premium horseback riding and training facility for over twenty years. They specalize in creating a family atmosphere which nurtures riding students of all ages and abilities. They also provide the best care for their horses and other animals that I have seen in over twenty years in the horse industry. On top of that they rescue unwanted/abandoned horses and other animals to make sure that the animal has a secure and productive life. But, best of all they have a way of developing confidence and self esteen in all their young riders. I would honestly say that if you or your child wants to learn to ride or to work around horses that Spruce Meadow Farm is one of the finest facilities in western New York.
I purchased a grooming/riding lesson for two on livingsocial b/c my daughter wanted to try it out. We made reservations on a Monday for that Friday. I confirmed the reservation Friday morning but got there to find that there was a show going on and no one was there to give us our lesson. A teenager sitting at a picnic table volunteered to take us. Before the lesson began there was some bickering between our "instructor" (who was doing her best) and a young child (delivering messages from the owner about which horses to use?) regarding which horses were available. Then two young men who obviously worked there in the barn had a fight during which they were yelling and swearing at each other in front of my 6-yr-old. After much confusion, the 17-yr-old girl (I asked her.) gave us a "lesson" which pretty much consisted of a few trips up and down the driveway since the other areas in which to ride were very muddy due to recent rains and since the barn was being used for the show. (Why did they bother to schedule us at that time?). There were about ten young kids there for horse camp with one teenager overseeing them AND working with some horses. The owner did say that if we were unsatisfied we could come back another time for free to try another lesson. You've got to be kidding me! No way! (Not even for free.)
I purchased two groupons each for one hour private horseback riding lessons for my daughter. The lesson only lasted 20 minutes when it was supposed to be an hour. The instructor barely spoke to her and was on her phone. Instructor did not have her practice much and my daughter spent more time cleaning the horse after then on the horse. The instructor didn't show her how to do anything or tell her what she was doing wrong. Very disappointing!!
Spruce Meadow Farm is a wonderful, family-friendly place! The instructors are knowledgeable and kind, and they offer a wonderful summer camp and lesson program. The horses are beautiful and well cared for, and there are several lesson options.
I highly recommend Spruce Meadow farm for riders of all ages and abilities.
i luvvv spruce meadows! the regulars r really nice and help u with everything from how to pick a horses hooves to tightning a girth! ive only been riding for about a year and im at the same level of experience as my friend who has been riding for 3 years! that says something doesnt it! it says that the rider instructers r great! the horses r also awesome. all of them r well trained. my favorite is cisco who is only 8! for 8 years old he is really good for people learning how to canter or jump! this is y i think smf is awesome
Having known the owners for 20 yrs I was distressed over the recent slanderous comments posted on Craig's list. They are totally false. All horses residing there receive both routine and emergent vet care. Horses and riders compete successfully at both local and away shows. One 30+yr old won a reserve champion ribbon at the Brookfield show on Memorial Day. It is a credit to these owners to take in unwanted horses. These senior citizens have a lot to offer new riders with years of experience. I visit many times and all stalls are well bedded horses have water and hay and NONE are thin. The young riders at that barn were insulted and the owners distressed. The farm got rave reviews from the Buffalo News on 9/5/09. By the way I'd like to know what this person's qualifications are. The should revisit again this time with their eyes open.
I wish I could give SMF a 6th star. They are all awesome there. The camp is a great way to spend your summer. You are guarenteed to have a great time while learning the basics of horses and horseback riding. The horses are all very well taken care of and everything runs smoothly. I've been riding here for a while and it is a very family oriented place to be. It is homey and everyone there will be sure you enjoy your time there.
